The sound of the Noyo River flowing through camp creates a constant backdrop at this Cal Fire-maintained campground located six miles east of Fort Bragg on Highway 20. Campers access the sites via a three-mile dirt road that descends into the forest, with conditions becoming muddy during wet weather when some campgrounds close seasonally to prevent damage.
Open terrain characterizes most camping areas, though the day-use section provides creek access for wading and exploring. Each site includes a picnic table, fire pit, and barbecue grill, with vault toilets and regular trash service maintaining cleanliness standards that reviewers consistently praise. Cal Fire crews check the property daily, though no camp host stays on-site. The campground operates on a first-come, first-serve basis with $20 nightly fees collected through self-pay stations.
Multiple hiking trails branch out from the camping areas into the surrounding demonstration forest. "Fellow campers weren't too loud, the birds were worse in the morning," notes Cassidy Y., reflecting the generally quiet atmosphere broken mainly by natural sounds. Weekend arrivals should plan for Friday afternoon arrival, as sites typically fill by early evening during peak season.
The location serves as a practical base for exploring the Mendocino Coast, with Fort Bragg's restaurants and services requiring a 30-minute drive on paved roads.
