June Lake Campground

About

USDA Forest Service

Inyo National Forest

Overview

Easy access to fishing, a marina and boat rentals make June Lake Campground a favorite spot for both families and anglers. The facility sits in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains in close proximity to the Ansel Adams Wilderness, Yosemite National Park and Mono Lake. The town of June Lake offers the convenience of shopping and dining, while the surrounding land and lakes provide ample outdoor recreation opportunities.

Recreation

Campers have no problem staying busy and enjoying the outdoors. Fishing for rainbow and Alpers trout, canoeing, boating and walking are just some of the activities available around the lake. Numerous trails lie minutes away, an obvious draw for hikers, mountain bikers and off-road vehicle enthusiasts. The Fern Lake Trail, a short drive away, leads into the scenic Ansel Adams Wilderness. Skiing is a major winter pastime in the area. A drive along the June Lake Loop results in expansive views of rugged mountain peaks and several lakes.

Facilities

The campground is a moderate size, with campsites scattered around a few overlapping loops. The facility provides drinking water, flush toilets and bear-proof lockers for food storage. Two marinas are close by, though not directly within the campground. Gift shopping, groceries and restaurants are within walking distance in the town of June Lake.

Natural Features

Campsites are located in a mixed aspen and pine forest above the eastern shoreline of beautiful, 257-acre June Lake. Many points in the campground have views of the surrounding 11,000 and 12,000' peaks. The campground's elevation is 7,600 feet. Many species of wildlife call the mountains home, such as black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, pine marten, pika and numerous fish and birds.

Nearby Attractions

Mono Lake and its many activities are minutes away. Hikers can access the scenic Ansel Adams Wilderness via nearby trails, and Yosemite National Park is a great day trip. Ansel Adams Wilderness Yosemite National Park

Nice camp ground - convenient location

We like this place, but it’s not a backcountry vibe. Right off the loop pretty much in town. Spectacular views from the right spot. We were in T-1. Great camp host. Walk to June Lake Brewing!

Book in advance!

Although we had to book pretty far In advance this place was awesome! The lake is a little far of a walk but, during the summer, people that visit treat it like a beach and it’s so cool to see so many people on the water and the sand. Definitely will bring rafts next time to tie up and hang out for the day! They also have a lot of water fill up stations and tons of bathrooms!

Really nice

The lake was beautiful and the campground was nice with very close water spigots. Mind the chipmunks though, they ripped through our air mattress and our stasher bag full of trail mix while we were just unloading the car

Magical spot

This is an incredible place with few amenities, but an amazing mix of serenity while right in the middle of town. Our site was surrounded by beautiful aspen trees and yet we walked to pizza, the marina, and the brewery. The best of both worlds!

Bear loop space 2

Short trip in from the highway. Stayed in the bear loop. Camping is very close to one another. Needed a place to rest from a day of long driving. Toilets are not in each loop so it is a hike/drive. Each space had a bear box, and table- don’t remember for certain if there were fire pits but I think there was. Went during Memorial Day weekend 2021 and did not pack adequate warm gear for the night and were freeeeezing! Absolutely beautiful view of the lake from the loop. I believe you can walk through some vegetation to get to the lake without driving back up and out of the loop.

Right next to the lake

Had a smaller campsite (site 15) that butted right up against another campsite, but most other sites seemed more private. Plenty of shade and trees. Saw a doe and two babies run through the site every morning.

Beautiful Spot

Like to camp here in late October early Novemeber when I drive the eastern sierras to take a look at the fall colors.  I am a tent camper so at that time of the year not too many people are in tents. Be warned it is COLD at night. Most of the sites here are literally on June Lake.  So watching the lake in the evening and morning is a real treat.  Good area for fishing and boating.

At the time of the year I go not very crowded.  I expect that is differnt at other times.  the fall colors along the June Lake loop are not to be missed.

This is nice little campgound.  Not too big.  SItes are well placed as you do not feel crowded.  Essential amenities but nothing fancy.

It is close enough to town you can get cofeee or eat out.

Nice, quiet and free

This place was pretty nice. Very close to June Lake. Just simple dispersed camping with a handful of spots, some had rock rings for fires. We saw a deer as well. We pulled down into the middle ring, where there was an old burned out car. It was nice and sheltered since it was a bit windy on that night. We also saw a deer and enjoyed the fresh air!

Great for groups and pets!

My group had a blast at this campground! We were really tucked away from neighbors and were very close to the lake and bathrooms. We went in August and it was perfect weather, warm days and cool nights. I am interested in what other campgrounds have to offer, but would definitely come back here and recommend! We also loved that it was pet friendly and an easy drive to everything wanted to see between Mammoth & Yosemite.

Good

It’s a small campground just next to the lake so the place is nice. But spots are very small so you don’t have a lot of space and you live with your neighbors, no choice. Impossible to find the host and we had to go to another campground to pay! Flush toilets, drinkin water, pet allowed, nothing for your dish, No showers. Nice but not one of the best place to stay

Beautiful, great car camping

June Lake was beautiful! The campground was great. We were in the Oh Ridge Bear loop. Our site was well placed, with enough privacy and distance from our neighbors. The bathroom was in the adjacent loop, but was tidy. There is a pay shower and a well-stocked store. They have a free ice cream social on Thursday evenings in the summer!

Left my heart ❤️ in June Lake

Perfect time of year to go to June Lake is when the snow is melting and running off into the lake. Some of The clearest water I have ever seen. The view is breathtaking and you jut never want to leave. We camped at the neighboring site called Oh Ridge. It wasn’t too bad,but the site was small and there were no trees. It really depends on where you pick your spot, so schedule soon.

Great campsite right next to town

Tent camping and some RV sites available. Went at the very end of the season so cold at night but beautiful during the day! Various homes nearby. Lake was beautiful and the leaves were changing in time for winter. Very clean. Flushable toilets and running water. Walking distance from town.

Spacious campground with flushable toilets

This campground was spacious and a single campsite easily fit 3 tents for 6 people. We could have put more if we needed to, I was impressed. It was set back away from the lake and so it was quite a walk to the beach, but that didn’t bother us.

We saw lots of wildlife and even had several deer come hang out in our campsite. They are clearly comfortable with humans.

Campground has:

-flushable toilets

-running water for washing dishes

-drinking water

-RV hookups

-large bear lockers

beautiful and clean

We camped here in early August 1017. We were close enough to the small town where there are restaurants and small shops. Don't forget enough blankets, layers, and an air mattress or padding for comfort because these items are very pricey, as expected, in the local shops. Camp host was very sweet and patient, as we were first timers. We didn't catch any fish at June lake but had fun trying. Others did, maybe we weren't using three right bait. Water was too cold to swim in for me but there were others in it. We rented a boat for half a day for about $65. Although it is best to reserve long in advance there are walk up spots, they just might not be where you'd like. Bathrooms had flush toilets and they even have coin operated showers at the marina. Lots to experience here. It did rain on us, (hard big drops) as we were just setting up camp but it cleared out and had beautiful weather the remainder of our visit.

Home, sweet second home

JUNE LAKE CAMPGROUND IS AMAZING. That is the short review.

My whole family loves June Lake campground, and we go there often. We usually book weekends and holidays as SOON as we are able to, and we have our favorite spots. All spots are awesome, and for $23 a night, $7 for a bundle of firewood, and only extra per night if you’ve got an extra vehicle. They’ve all got fire pits and are a short walk to the bathrooms (super clean), and showers (also super clean and warm). The hosts are all friendly and make daily rounds. The lake is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, and the weather is always beautiful.

My sister, her fiancé, and their son, always go fishing while we are there too. They have boats and kayaks for rent too, and the lake is the most beautiful color

We just got back from camping there this weekend and it was awesome as ever. We always have at least one dog with us, we always do hikes and trails, and we always walk to Gull lake for the thrift shop.

This is my favorite place besides home.

Peaceful lakeside camping walking distance to town

We really enjoyed June Lake Campground! Stayed there for one night on our way out of Yosemite. The drive around the lake is beautiful and there are multiple camping areas. We stayed on a weeknight in October, so had no trouble getting an open spot without needing a reservation. The fall foliage was very pretty. Campsite was nice, large and level and tucked into the trees, so felt private and secluded. Some spots were right adjacent to the water as well. No showers, bathrooms with flush toilets. Drinking water and wash station were available.

Short walk into town with a couple of restaurants and shops. We had some beers at June Lake Brewing company which was just a short walk away -highly recommend stopping in there. Dog friendly, very nice place with good beer! I would definitely stay at June Lake again.

Beautiful area with lots of amenities

There are amenities and great restaurants but also a wonderful lake for kayaking, swimming and paddle boarding. It is a high mountain lake and can be cold but fishing is also good and the area around offers a ton of hiking - only 15 miles to Mammoth and backside of Yosemite's Devil's Postpile.

Great little town

Some of the best resort skiing to avoid the crowd on a powder day. Fantastic snowshoeing during the winter months, with the closure of the backside of the 120. Summer boasts great trout fishing, kayaking, and biking. Stop by the tiger bar in winter for a warm meal, and Ohanas and JLB in the summer or anytime really.
