Nice but rustic
We arrived around 9:30 on a Friday morning and the place was empty. We decided to check out the next campground along the 108 corridor, which was Dardanelle, and it was super busy. So we headed back and chose campsite#11. The campsites are spacious with enough room in between sites, have picnic tables and fire rings. The vault toilets were very clean and had plenty of supplies. Even though we brought water I did check a spigot and it did not produce any water. There were plenty of garbage bins and were empty when we arrived. It appears that the sites have not had any official work done to them in a while, kind of overgrown with weeds and the backup spots, while lengthy are very, very narrow and lined with big boulders, makes for a challenging backup. This campground feels a bit like the “overflow” place, where people end up when they can’t find anything else. After a while more people showed up and it got full pretty quick. No camp host but everyone was pretty respectful and showed camp etiquette. While you could hear the Stanislaus River you are situated quite a ways above it, but there is a well-worn path down to the water from site#13 or#14 that ends a nice sandy beach area. While we were there it got super windy every afternoon around 11:00 so make sure you have everything tied down and secure otherwise it will get blown down. No cell phone signal from T-Mobile or Verizon, although we were able to get a few bars on Sirius XM to listen to a baseball game. We stayed for two nights, $22.00 per night.
