Sitting within Denali National Park, Unit 34 at Mount Galen is a free, hike-in backcountry site that requires only a mile or two of walking to move out of sight of the park road. The lower elevation terrain is marshy and heavily mosquito-prone, so campers need to gain elevation quickly to find relief. Water sources are also higher up the mountain. Mosquito gear is essential, and those exploring tent sites near Denali National Park should plan accordingly. Nearby, Backcountry Unit 18: Muldrow Glacier — Denali National Park sits roughly two miles to the east.
