Rosehip Campground

Off Chena Hot Springs Road, 27 miles northeast of Fairbanks, Rosehip Campground spreads across 27 sites beneath a canopy of birch trees. The campground operates from May 21 through September 15, accommodating RVs up to 26 feet alongside tent campers. Multiple access options include drive-in sites, walk-in spots, and boat-in access from the Chena River.

Birch forest provides natural separation between campsites, creating what Erica C. describes as "huge, private spots." A half-mile trail leads down to the Chena River for fishing and swimming access. Several connecting nature trails branch throughout the area, extending exploration opportunities beyond the immediate campground boundaries. Cell service remains spotty, and mosquitoes can be heavy during summer months.

Standard amenities include drinking water, restrooms, picnic tables, and trash service. Campfires are permitted, and the facility maintains ADA accessibility. The campground sits two miles from Chena Hot Springs Resort, making it a convenient base for hot springs visits. Sites rarely fill to capacity, maintaining an uncrowded atmosphere even during peak season. For dispersed camping options, Chena River State Recreation Area Dispersed near Rosehip Campground lies just over a mile east.

Beautiful Spot

This campground is beautiful! Surrounded by birch trees with huge, private spots. This is one of the first campgrounds on the Chena Hot Springs road and it does have service. The only downside was the mosquitos, they were bad.

Nice clean facilities

The spots are fairly wooded. There are lots of mosquitoes in the area also. They have some sports you can park and walk to as well which is nice! Everything is clean as well. Not crowded either.

Quiet and spacious

While there may not be a large number of site, if you get a site you will have lots of space. We were able to fit a 26' travel trailer plus the truck and not be in the road. 1/2 mile walk down to the river and several nature trails

Great open beach areas

This has been an awesome place to dip in the river. We have seen wolves in this river spot which was quite scary but an experience all the same.

Close to lots and in the middle of now where

27 campsites in the center of the Alaskan playground. Cell coverage is spotty as well as the Internet. This campground is bigger than it looks. There are so many connecting trails it is worth exploring. This is also very close to Chena Hot-springs which is definitely a must stop if you have time.

Beautiful hideaway

Great little campground just off Chena Hot Springs Road. There’s great separation between campsites. Only $15 per night!
