The Backyard RV Resort

This established RV resort near Montgomery provides full hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer connections for rigs up to 80 feet. Located off I-65 with convenient highway access, the campground sits close enough to major roads that traffic noise is audible, though reviewers note it doesn't penetrate RV interiors significantly.

The property features gravel roads and pull-through sites that accommodate larger rigs without difficulty. "Water pressure was strong, and management recommended using a pressure reducer," notes MickandKarla W.. Sites are spaced adequately apart, though not particularly spacious, with utilities positioned centrally on pads. Most sites lack picnic tables or fire rings, though select end-cap sites include these features. Cell coverage proves reliable with multiple carriers reporting strong signals.

The resort includes a small fenced dog area for off-leash play, plus additional space for leashed walks around the property. A fishing pond provides on-site recreation, while clean bathhouses and laundry facilities serve campers' practical needs. The open layout without significant tree cover makes satellite setup straightforward. For those exploring the broader area, camping near Montgomery offers access to additional recreational opportunities within the region.

Nightly rates range from $50-70, with reservations available through the front desk. The location works well for overnight stops or extended stays, particularly for travelers with larger RVs needing reliable full hookups.

Decent Campground

We used Trip Wizard, Waze, and Google Maps for navigation. Approaching from US-231 to US-80, the directions from Florida prompted a U-turn to reach Sassafras Circle, and traffic was heavy since the campground (CG) sits near I-65 by the TA Travel Center and several fast-food restaurants. We later realized a left turn at Arby’s provides a much easier entrance into the CG. Check-in was quick and easy, and we received a helpful information packet before being escorted to pull-through site 402 with full hookups. The site was more than long enough for our 40' toy hauler and F450 and was fairly level. Utilities were nicely positioned near the middle of the pad. Sites in this CG were spaced nicely apart, though not especially spacious. Site 402 was considered a premium site, but there was no picnic table or fire ring, and only a couple of sites had those features—site 403 on the end cap included a nice fire pit and picnic table. Along with a fishing pond and a few minor amenities, the“resort” name felt a bit generous. We had 2 bars on both Verizon and T-Mobile. Water pressure was strong, and management recommended using a pressure reducer. The CG information noted fast internet with no need for cable; however, our speed test showed about 18 Mbps download. The open layout with no trees would make satellite easy to use. There is a small fenced dog area, and additional space around the property worked well for leashed walks. Overall, this was a good CG for an overnight stop or even a few days.

Great Campground

Reservations made yhe night before online. The campground has not changed nanes yet but will be known as Unhitched Montgomery. Some short time stays and a bunch of long term stays. Clean bathhouse and great outdoor gathering areas, really like "the hangout" area. Pet friendly. Laundry available. It seems secluded but there are a lot of conveniences nearby. People at front desk were very friendly. Easy pull through sites. Highly recommend.

Nice and clean, pricey vs. amenities

This place is now called"The Backyard RV Resort". Gravel roads and pull-thru sites. Stayed overnight while passing through. Convenient to I-65. Can hear Highway and trains outside but didnt bone inside my RV. A little pricey($69) versus the amenities offered. Staff was very friendly on the phone when I called to reserve a spot. Excellent coverage from AT&T. Didnt connect to their WiFi. Would stay here again if visiting the area. Might look for cheaper alternative if just passing through. We camped at The Backyard RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Home away from home

We are baaaack! We came back on Friday, the 26th and decided to stay a week. Shannon and his wife, Stacey have the gift of hospitality. We feel safe here with the hidden location and security cameras. Our dogs enjoyed the dog park and walks through the woods and around the lake. I enjoyed the watching the cows and dog herding the goats through the clearing. There is also a playground for kids.

First Experience

Shannon, the site manager, helped us newbies set up camp. The park is quiet with a lake and beautiful fountain. There is plenty of green space for the dogs.

Pretty Setting!

Honestly, wasn't sure when we first turned in the driveway.  However, very happy with the park!  We were lucky enough to score a site on the water.  Spots are level and decent sized.  Booking was a breeze, staff was very friendly.  We didn't use the bathrooms or laundry room but they look very clean and recently updated.  Also has a very nice fenced in dog park for off leash play time.

Our AT&T had 5 bars and streamed videos with no problem.  Verizon had 4 bars as well.
