Wagoner — New River State Park

Our site and bathhouse was clean. I just wish we had camped closer to the river. However it was rice to have a fire and just sit under the stars. Also they have a pole there to hold your pets while setting up. I think we will go back.

This has to be one of your favorite state parks so far. Wonderful campground with nice level pads, well maintained grounds, a great big visitor's center with loads of educational displays, and a river too! Will DEFINITELY be back again.

We visited in April. Beautiful days hiking nearby, cold nights. Pet friendly. Pretty clean bath house. Visitors center nearby. Sites were mostly level, with gravel, fire pit, picnic table. Some were classically wooded, shady and some in the bright sun. Cute small town nearby.

The 221 access had everything we needed. There were sites with full hookups and sites with just electric. Most sites were really private which is nice. The park is spread out over several different, disconnected properties throughout the county which offered a lot of different recreational opportunities. The hiking at Wagoner Access was easy, but 221 and Elk Shoals were more strenuous. Overall the park has miles and miles of blue way. And I highly recommend spending an afternoon on the beach at the Elk Shoals access. Beautiful spot with awesome swimming hole! Pros: super clean restrooms and showers, amazing visitors center, plenty of hiking trails, just a short hike or drive down to the river. Cons: no views from the sites, for noobs like us there weren’t instructions at the dump site

This is one of my favorite campgrounds in NC. It’s great for the family or a group of friends. It does get a little buggy by the waterside sites but easy to avoid with bug spray! Each site has a good amount of privacy with the greenery being so dense. The bath house is close and clean (: The campground is spacious and you can tube right to your site!

I think this was probably the cleanest campground we have stayed.  Sites are mostly level, but the orientation of most of the sites seemed odd to us. Our site was a back-in site and the pad with the picnic table and fire ring was on the opposite side as the door of the camper.  This was very awkward to us. 

Nice hiking trails that are well marked. There is not much to do in the immediate area if you leave the campground.

Relatively small campground but well maintained. Some sites are very well screened and others are very exposed. Depending on weather and wether or not you have solar panels on your rig, these open spaces can be a blessing or a curse. Look at the site photos, they’re accurate.
Bathhouse was cleaner than average, though there were some intimidating cobwebs in the corners. It’s not a big park, but there are a few miles of trails you can explore. These are some of the best marked trails ever.
All in all, well worth the reservation fee and a great place to relax. Enjoy!

This was our first time camping and it was great. The campground was very nice and well kept the camp host was awesome and helped me get our wildwood in the spot just right. It's a beautiful quiet campground, just what we needed on our maiden trip. The neighbors were very nice and helpful too. We can't wait to go back..! The full hook ups ended with all fees was $35 a night .

This campground was really well maintained and clean. They had all the COVID protection in place for everyones safety. The camp host was friendly and very helpful. We were on site 50 which is closest to parking. No water view but more secluded then most sites. This site does get great sun in the afternoon. Sites 46, 45 and 41 where my favorites with water views (46 coming in 1st). The bathrooms and showers were well kept and clean. The hikes around the campgrounds were great.
They do have wagons/Wheel barrels to help haul your supplies to your tent.
We definitely want to come back for longer and canoe in and out of sites. 

Nice looking camp in a beautiful area. Didn’t stay but did use the dump station for $17, so wanted to update info.

No cars allowed. You cart your stuff to the site. All sites have trees for hammocks. Watch for poison ivy and enjoy floating or kayaking the river

We camped at the Wagoner access with our dogs over the weekend. The campground is very beautiful. You have to walk in but the park provides little carts and wheelbarrows. The sites and the bathhouse are very well maintained. The park host, Tom Keller, was just fantastic. Really helpful and super nice. There are also 2 beautiful hiking trails starting at the campground. I would definitely camp here again even if I have to say there are much more scenic places in this part of North Carolina.

Small campground with a handful of FHU sites. some sites have patio area on “wrong” (street) side instead of curb side, so take a look at Google satellite map when booking. Sites 3, 7, 10 are among the best. We’ve already booked another trip to go back.

Group campsites don't have enough trees for hammocks but other campsites are great. Nice by the river, we left our canoes in a spot for the next day and they were not touched or damaged.

Every spot here is close to the river! The gentle sound of the New river is the most peaceful sound! Extremely clean bath house and very helpful rangers.

Our family enjoyed this state park very much. The section of the campground we were in was very quiet and the hiking was great. The nature center was very interactive and great for kids. We were too far away from the water to walk, so we missed out on that, which we were looking forward to, but overall a really nice experience.
