Hiking and creek-side exploring draw campers to Max V. Shaul State Park Campground in Fultonham, New York, where nearby waterfalls and the trail to Vroman's Nose give visitors concrete destinations to plan around. The park sits in forested terrain with some open areas, and the 30 sites are laid out with notable spacing between them, making the campground feel less compressed than similarly sized parks. Reviewers consistently note that the upper loop sits farther from the park entrance and road noise, which is worth considering since a well-traveled road runs adjacent to the property and generates some traffic sound.
Cleanliness stands out across nearly every review. The bathhouses are modern and well-maintained, and the campground includes dedicated dish-washing sinks, a children's playground, and a pavilion. ryan S. sums up what multiple visitors report: "very clean facilities and incredibly nice staff." Firewood is available for purchase on-site, and a Stewart's convenience store is roughly 10 minutes away for resupply.
Sites have electric, water, and sewer hookups available, with a 25-foot RV length limit. Reservations are accepted, and the season runs from mid-May through mid-October. Pets are welcome on leash. Campers wanting to compare nearby options can browse campgrounds around Max V. Shaul State Park or look at Duck Pond Campsite and Betty Brook Camp in the surrounding Schoharie County hills. The combination of well-kept facilities and spacious sites makes this a solid base for anyone focused on day hiking in the region.
