The campground has two distinct sections. One runs more open and exposed, while the other offers a woodier, more secluded feel. Campers who visit on weekdays in late summer have found the tent section nearly empty, with birds audible through the evening and frogs and insects taking over after dark. One reviewer noted standing water on the sites after wet weather, with mosquitoes becoming a real factor later in the season, so bug protection is worth packing. Fishing, hiking, and biking are all available within the larger park, which also has numerous picnic facilities, many with playgrounds.
"It was quite and there were all sorts of birds singing until dark," notes Gypsy J. of a late-July weeknight stay. The Plainview Campground — Lincoln Trail State Park sits about half a mile east for campers who want to compare options within the same park. The town of Marshall is a short drive north for resupply. This campground works well for anglers, motorcyclists on longer routes, and families who want lake access with full hookup amenities.

For those who like the beautiful sights and sounds of the great outdoors, but prefer the amenities of home, both Lincoln Trail State Park Campgrounds offer electricity, showers, tables, fireblocks, playground equipment, water, toilet facilities and a sanitary dumping station. For those who wish to be attuned to nature without the distractions of modern conveniences, Lakeside Campground also includes a Class C camping area for tents. The shower buildings are closed by November 1 (may be earlier if bad weather) and reopen May 1 (may be earlier, weather depending).
