Fair Haven Beach State Park runs along the southern shore of Lake Ontario, and the Bluff Camping Area sits deep within its wooded interior, far enough from the park entrance that campers find themselves genuinely surrounded by trees. The campground provides drive-in access with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer, making it a workable destination for RVs as well as tent campers who want electric sites with shade. Sites vary in character: some are more enclosed by tree cover, while others open up a bit more but still give enough room to spread out gear, vehicles, and even a boat trailer.
Cleanliness comes up consistently across reviews. Showers are well-maintained and, as Layla P. noted, there is a dedicated outdoor sink for doing dishes near the bathroom building. Site 63 is noted for heavier shade; site 68 sits closer to the bathroom and water access. The park store stocks firewood, ice, and rental equipment, and a small boat rental operation operates on site. Lake Ontario is easily accessible from the campground, with a sand beach available for swimming and multiple spots suited to fishing.
The sites in the electric loop are closer together, which some solo campers find reassuring and others may find cramped. Bluff-area tent sites get more wind exposure, particularly in fall, so campers should factor that into gear choices. Reservations are available and recommended. Pets are permitted. For campers wanting a different configuration within the same park, Drumlin B Camping Area is roughly 0.7 miles away, though reviewers note those sites run smaller and sandier.
Description
Fair Haven Beach State Park has one of the finest public lakefronts in upstate New York, with high bluffs above sandy beaches and hilly woodlands. The park features 1,500 feet of beautiful sandy beach including 600 feet of guarded swimming area. Inland, Sterling Pond and Creek are centrally located amongst the geological transition between wood and water. Campsites and cabins are nestled within the gently rolling woodlands. Fishing and boating opportunities are plentiful in Lake Ontario and the adjoining Little Sodus Bay.
Park facilities include two sandy beaches separated by a diving channel with two boards. Boat rentals include row boats, paddle boats, canoes and kayaks which are only for use on the inland Sterling Pond. Three separate campgrounds and a 30 unit cabin colony each contain a centralized restroom building with showers. Two additional cabins and three cottages make up the self contained units available for reservation. Campgrounds consist of 46 electric sites and 138 non-electric sites. A ball field, hiking trail, camp store, concession, 5 picnic areas, 2 family picnic tent rentals and 2 shelters (one heated) are also offered as an attraction to patrons. With fantastic scenic views and an 18 hole golf course this makes for a unique and accommodating destination.
