## Overview

 Green River Lakes Campground is located near the shores of beautiful Lower Green River Lake, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. The lake sits on the western edge of the rugged Wind River Range in Wyoming. Visitors enjoy hiking and backpacking into the adjacent Bridger Wilderness, as well as fishing and canoeing on the lake.
## Recreation

 The lake is open to small watercraft only, making it an excellent location for canoeing and kayaking. A primitive, carry-down boat launch is located at the lakeshore. Anglers fish for brook, cutthroat, rainbow and mackinaw trout. Hiking and horseback riding into the Bridger Wilderness and Wind River Range are popular activities enjoyed by visitors to the area. Trails in the area include the Continental Divide Trail, Highline Trail and Lakeside Trail. A trailhead parking area, horse corral and water trough are just outside the campground. 
## Facilities

 The campground contains three large-group campsites with picnic tables, food storage locker, campfire circles and grills. Sites A and B can accommodate up to 35 people each, and site C can accommodate up to 50 people. Vault toilets and drinking water are available. A campground host may be located on-site. Roads and parking spurs within the campground are dirt. Parking for the group sites are not designed for large RVs or trailers.36 additional single sites are available within the campground, they are first come/first served. No reservations. 
## Natural Features

 Square Top Mountain towers over scenic Green River Lakes. This unique peak is part of the Wind River Range and tops out at an elevation of 11,581 feet. Most campsites afford scenic views of the peak and the lake below. Lodgepole pines dot the campground, offering very limited shade. Wildlife and summer wildflowers are abundant in the area.

One awesome Campground with the beauty to match. Stayed in mid July and bugs were horrific but hey, that's camping.

One Of The Favorites 

16 miles of rough dirt road, I recommend tent camping only.  It would be very hard on a RV.  I would give 5 stars if road was better.  This is one of my favorite places to camp. Clean well kept sites, fishing, hiking trails, and outstanding scenery.  This is bear country, be prepared.

We were there over the 4th of July and were able to find a site. Each site was far enough away from others that ypu had plenty of privacy and lots of trees! There were multiple outhouse facilities and were really nice for outhouses, but one was without any TP.  Overall excellent place to camp with well marked trails. DON'T FORGET BUG SPRAY!

Came late spring before there was a lot of other campers. Absolutely beautiful campground and views of Green River lakes and Wind River Mts.

Spring solitude

So this was such a gem to drive up to, the views are just big wowsers. It was a bit late in the season, mid-September, so wasn’t sure what to expect. But the campground is very well-maintained, and there are bare boxes and lots of sites available with stunning views of square top mountain. It was pretty cold, but the sun comes up and warms you up fast. Will be back in the summer with a kayak and plan to do some of the longer hikes to other lakes.￼￼

Stunning area and great camping!!

Dirt road to get to, but easily managed. A car could go down (very slowly in some spots). Boondocking camping sites all along the river coming up to this spot. They fill up on the weekend pretty fast during peak season. Sites at the official campsite are close together, but have trees in between. You can see your neighbors if that matters to anyone. But it was very quiet while we were there. We were out of a tent, but saw small RVs there too. I’m not sure if there were power hook ups. The surrounding area is stunning. If you go hiking, go out on the Highline trail, and come back on Lakeside trail, that will be the best for views. Start just 30mins after sunrise for beautiful light for photos. I record sound for a living and I loved this place because of how devoid of human noise it is when you get past the two lakes on the trail. Pure nature sounds, aside from the occasional commercial plane. It was so dead quiet, I had to really crank my gain while recording natural ambiences.

This was one of our best camping trips of the summer!  So many activities!  You can swim, paddle board, hike, run, flit down the river, and just relax around the beautiful lake!  

We pulled our camper down the long dirt road. We just took our time (1 hr on the dirt road).  The drive was well worth it!  We can’t wait to go back next year and stay longer!  This year we spent 2 nights in late August. 

This may be the best spot in WY!  

Beautiful

If you can arrive in one piece the campground is nice,  typical one. The 18 mile road is beyond rough. Dirt road and driveways in the campground with pit toilets. Lake is breathtakingly beautiful.  Wildlife was abundant in the area.

Beyond Extreme Rough Road 

Beautiful scenery!  The mosquitos  were vicious. the road was passable but if someone with a regular clearance vehicle I.e. minivan did not know how to keep their tires up on the ridges they could get hung up.

The 18 mile drive is bouncy and a bit rough in places but most people should not have a problem. The views are absolutely amazing, second to none! It’s hard to find a more picturesque place to be. I only rated a four because only one of the pit toilets was open, the one by us was locked up. The one that was open was not well taken care of and smelled bad. Overall though, yes this is a must do!!

Beautiful area but the campground needs work

The very long gravel road to get here is terrible but 100% worth it! Doable in a 2WD but recommend 4WD. The campsites are semi private and there is lots so dont be worried! The surroundings are beautiful and the lake is a short walk which is nothing less of stunning. Would definitely revisit.

did not disappoint 

It took me about 90 minutes once I hit the unpaved portion of the road. Very rough. Averaged about 5 to 10 mph. I have a 4x4 van. I did see a Subaru coming the other way. Would not want to travel this road if it was wet and muddy.

However, the campground and surrounding area are beautiful. Lots of hiking nearby around the lake and into the Winds. The sites are fairly private and spread out. The clean vault toilets are like little log cabins. There was only a handful of sites occupied while I was there in mid-October.

Very nice but hard to get to

Wow!!!  If you can get past the 19-mile drive that took us 3 HOURS, you will be amazed at the end result, the scenery is breath-taking!  

  

The campground itself has first come first serve sites, thankfully, there was a spot available after that awful drive.  We let the back door down &amp; enjoyed that view!  The hummingbirds were everywhere &amp; fighting for a spot at the feeders.  While down at the lake, we got awesome views of a pair of bald eagles.  

  

Would come back, but I'd have to figure something out for a smoother ride!
