Description
Open BLM high-desert terrain on a southwest Wyoming mesa sits just outside Fossil Butte National Monument with unobstructed views of the butte itself and wide-open skies that earn the area a dark-sky reputation. A steep, rutted dirt road climbs roughly a third of a mile from the pavement to a broad, mostly flat clearing with room for several rigs and free-roaming cattle for neighbors. The access road is gated and closed to motorized vehicles from January through April; the rest of the year it's passable for two-wheel-drive vehicles in dry conditions, though high clearance is an asset on the rocky, rutted sections.
