The Best Camping Near Lovell, Wyoming

I stayed at this campground while driving around the country with some close friends. The sites were very nice and the place was completely empty when we were there. It was the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. Make sure to walk down the hill to the lake since that is where you can fill up on water. Though be prepared cause it was turned off during the winter months when we were there. We had to drive down the road and go buy jugs of water to hold us over for the night. The only challenge was that it was very dry and I couldn't have a fire even though it was cold (Can't really hold that against the campsite though).

Private and Beautiful

It’s big open campground but the sites are so large we didn’t mind---plus you get better views of the amazing colors on the cliffs. Pros: central location, near the marina, incredible views from your tent, water, flush toilets, clean, great caretakers, stargazing, large sites. Cons: only some of the sites have shade pavilions. 


Horseshoe Bend needs no introduction 

The campground was perfect. The sites were spacious, some with electric and water. The facilities were clean and even flushed! Hiking trails galore, and the boat ramp was easily accessible. But most importantly, the views were out of this world and the family memories are precious!

Highly recommend.

Everything you could want!

Horseshoe Bend is a great camping area. It is right next to the marina, where you can buy a few supplies, and there is a roped off swimming area nearby. Great place for families to get away.

No cell signal, which is not really a bad thing in my opinion.

We have found scorpions, however, so always be aware of your surroundings!

Like a small desert... next to a lake. 

This is a great campground if you're going to be out on the lake or hitting the off-road trails. Its literally a campground in the desert though there are some great views in the surrounding areas. The campground itself if nice if you don't mind that there aren't any trees. There are some permanent shades in select campgrounds. Some sites have full water and power hook-ups and there's a free dump station on your way out. The campground was clean! Some sites are very very basic and some sites are updated and well laid out with plenty of room.  We went over 4th of July weekend with no reservations and there were still a handful of open sites available though the good ones that would fit a longer camper trailer were pretty much taken up. The camp hosts were super friendly. The campground sits about a 1/2 mile or so from the lake. The marina/boat dock has a tiny store and there is a great area for day use (bring mosquito spray!). If you're going up for off-roading be sure to print out some maps before hand as there are plenty of great trails and views in this area! Desert Camping

High desert camping overlooking Bighorn Lake and the marina. I highly suggest you pay the extra couple bucks for a site with the covered picnic table to get some shade. Some sites have been updated with water and electric hookups, some have grills and tent pads and some don’t, but all have fire pits and picnic tables. The bathrooms have flush toilets and were very clean. If you need a shower, head into Lovell and drop a donation in the box at the City Camping Park and use the super clean showers there. I spent a long time talking with the host who’s home is just north in Montana. He had great ideas about taking the canyon boat ride (about $40 for a two hour tour), checking out Devils Canyon, or looking for bighorn sheep and Pryor Mountain wild horses (both of which I saw!).

Hot but beautiful

This campsite is very flat! There’s no shade, so be prepared to be hot. We stayed two nights. The first night got chilly at night but was perfect. The second night was incredibly windy so we couldn’t have a fire and had to park our truck in front of our tent to block the wind. But we still had a blast. The host was extremely nice and even offered us a place in her tent if the winds became too heavy. We heard coyotes our first night but did not see any wildlife. The campsite is conveniently located next to the horseshoe bend marina, where you can rent kayaks and canoes, and I think they rent boats as well. And a few miles down the road is Devil’s Canyon. Beautiful sunsets and night skies. Highly recommend!

Beautiful campsite no

The campground was pretty open, but there wasn't a breath of wind. It was a little pricey if paying online ($7.54 in extra fees), but we'll worth it. Bighorn park is absolutely breathtaking and underrated.

Nice, Quiet Night with Nocturnal Visitors

Open year round but, water and electric are off September 30 through May 1. 
There are no vault toilets in campground.
1/4 mile away flush toilets are open year round.
$30 per night for developed sites (no senior discount). 
$18 per night for undeveloped sites with no water or electric. Senior discount ok. (There are no undeveloped sites unless you count the developed sites in winter when power and water are off.

November 5 I was the only one there. No trees or shrubs anywhere.

Open in winter - sort of.

Beautiful campground with amazing views of the canyons. No trees so no shade, luckily we arrived in the early evening so temps weren’t as hot. Sky is very, very dark and you can see so much on a clear night. Great for anybody with an astronomy hobby! Heard coyotes at night but sounded far away. First come first serve spots, you pick an open spot and deposit the payment in the provided envelopes by the bathroom and put it in the Iron Ranger. You then clip a piece from the envelope to your spot to show you’ve paid. Some spots have fire pits, others do not so choose wisely. The spots are spread out enough so you’re not close to other campers. Bathrooms were adequate, flush toilets with soap/water/hand dryer. Highly recommend and will be staying here again next time we’re in Wyoming!!!

Quiet and beautiful campground

Nicely spaced sites, some have awesome pergolas over the sites, many leveled and outlined with landscape timbers. No showers but do have flush toilets and dump station.

This campground has really gorgeous scenery. The picnic tables, fire pits and sun/wind shades are all newer and well kept. Clearly states bear area and to keep all foods properly contained. However as far as I've seen there are only bear boxes in the picnic area by the marina and there's really no trees around. You would have to use a bear safe container or the sun/wind shades to hang your food if your in a tent but not all sites have them. A lot of sites have water and electric in loops A and B. There is a water fill and dump station on the road before the turn off of the campground. The potable water has a nozzle on it and you can not hook a hose to it. However the sites with water have a normal garden hose spigot. My only complaint would be the people are inconsiderate and quite loud all day and there's not many people here. It's not even half full but some are clearly quite drunk  most of the day. There's a family that pulled in and set up right around 10 pm right next to us. Banging and screaming about for over an hour. Our neighbors just let their dog run loose.  Ive found discarded fish carcasses that someone had filleted and just tossed behind a bush. Also a lot of trash all over the place. The first site in loop A is marked as the host...I've never seen them so clearly they dont care. So as long as you dont want peace and quiet then this place is fine. I cant imagine what it's like when it's mostly full on the weekend. We really wanted to see the canyon though so we opted to stay here for the night on the way to Custer national forest.
