The Best Camping Near Friendship, Wisconsin

Beautiful campground. Great sites surrounded by beauty. Roche A Cri jumps out of the Earth soaring skyward. A must do for every camper is to camp here.

Rocking It

This park is absolutely beautiful. Out has great trails, a viewing tower that will leave you breathless, prehistoric petroglyphs on a natural monolith, plenty of wildlife viewing. My only gripe is one that can't be helped. Adams County is rather flat and sound carries. You will hear cars on the highway at night in the distance. The sky is amazing with no light pollution. For the trout fisherman, Carter Creek comes right through the park so it's easy to camp and head into the creek when the trout are active. There are plenty of other fishing holes a short drive away. Most sites have shaded pads. Modern shower houses. I loved everything about it....but the late night road noise.

Beautiful, however....

The campgrounds here are really nice and provide a nice escape from the normal busy camping areas. This location served as a basecamp for going to Devil's Lake and provided nice cover with some decent trails near by.

Great Campgrounds

I think Roche-A-Cri is a solid park.  It has some decent hiking with some nice scenery.  The campsites are quiet with plenty of trees.  The roads are paved and the campsites are clean.  The bathrooms need updating.

One or two nights at Roche-A-Cri works pretty well.

Loved this campground. Not very large so its quiet and the sites are well spaced and wooded. We stayed in site #11 which had a nice buffer of woods between the sites (9&11 together would make a good combination for 4 people with max privacy). Toilets are pit which is a downside but they were maintained pretty well. Wish there were showers to clean up after hiking but hey....you're in the woods! Loved how the trails were located right off the campground loop. The 303 stairs to the top lookout is a workout and worth the trip for the view. We hiked almost 5.5 miles through this beautiful state park. Proximity to the Dells and other parks make this an ideal home base to explore what Central Wisconsin has to offer. Only downside would be the noise from the highway but that is only during the day. Its very quiet at night!

Almost perfect campground!

Love this place!! We camped here once when I was growing up and i can honestly say it was one of my most memorable family camping trips. I remember checking out the petroglyphs and climbing what seemed like a million stairs to the top of the rock formation. But I specifically remember all of the turkey vultures when you were climbing all of those stairs! Wisconsin state parks has a really great junior ranger type program for kids my parents checked us out an interpretive backpack loaded with fun park activities that kept us all busy the whole weekend. Would love to make it back there someday. This park has an incredibly interesting history.

Really great park in a super odd location

Very nice campground you can however hear HWY noise at your site.

Nice wooded sites

Wasn’t sure with the 4th holiday so close but turned out to be a nice quiet campground. Soft sandy non electric sites. Good firewood available. Great hammock trees. 

Quiet Park, Nice Sites

We made a last minute camping decision and booked the very last available site at Roche-a-cri and were very happy with our experience! 

We camped on site 40 which was very flat so it was easy to find a position for the tent. The sites are small but practical and offered a nice bench in addition to the picnic table.

The hiking trails were very well maintained (we did the Acorn trail) and it was a beautiful hike. Sadly, the petroglyphs and stairway to the top look-out were closed due to COVID so we weren’t able to take in the beautiful view from the top that others have shared in their pictures. 

The park ranger that went around to each site to check everyone in was very friendly and added to an overall nice experience!

Pretty campground

The campground is small, but very nice. There are trails all over the bluff, and the view from the top is very cool. You can swim at the nearby Castle Rock Lake.

Kind of small

Chill and relaxing camp ground in Roche A’ Cri Wisconsin State park. Sites surrounded by old growth pines and adjacent to park’s name sake, Roche A’ Cri mound. 

Camp sites are spacious and if you arrive during the right time of year, you can find wild black raspberries (forage responsibly please)

State park and campground are on the smaller side but the natural beauty makes the park standout. 

Natural and geological wonder

Continuing to do my state park visits. Notice that the trails were really nice and the view at the top of the tower was spectacular. The camping was probably not the best in the world but all in all a nice place. 

Cool hikes and breathtaking views. 

Whenever I mentioned to people I was camping at Roche-a-Cri State Park, I'd get, "Huh, never heard of it" as a response.  Most of the campsites were filled, but it still felt like finding a hidden gem.

  

Pros:

\- Most of the sites were relatively large.  We had 3 tents and 2 cars on our site and it wasn't a problem.

\- The rock formations and carvings alone are well worth the trip!  Super interesting.

\- The pit toilets were clean and well maintained.

  

\- Could hear some highway noise, but not terrible.

  

All in all, we really enjoyed the campground.  Nothing too fancy, but it is worth the trip!  Happy camping!

Lesser-known Gem

An excellent place for hiking and camping. We didn’t camp but spent the day hiking, identifying mushrooms and prairie native plants and had a picnic. There is a tall tower to climb to a splendid overview of Friendship-Adams, many playgrounds, a paved path, hiking trails through the woods, streams, and fascinating hieroglyphs which put Roch-a-Cri in Wisconsins Region of Historical places. Very cool! Great place for families, couples and singles adventuring alike. 

Deserted and Historical 

This was a great experience rocheckery State Park as beautiful outlooks there's a lot of scenic sites goes from trees and Forest to rocks and scenic views if you like hiking and wilderness camping this is the place.
