Tucked several miles off the main Forest Service Road in northern Wisconsin, Lone Wolf Lake sits within the Nicolet National Forest system and gives access to a small lake-side camping area shaded by large pines. The approach is manageable for most vehicles on the outer stretch, but the trail gets rougher closer to the lake, making an SUV or truck the practical choice. Vehicles over 10 feet should not attempt the route. No cell service should be expected. Anglers and paddlers will find direct water access, and campgrounds around Three Lakes give a sense of just how many lake-based options exist in this corridor. This one suits campers who want minimal company and don't mind earning the site.
