The Bear Necessities – Cozy Off-Grid Cabin Retreat in the Blue Mountains

Escape the noise and reconnect with nature at The Bear Necessities, a charming off-grid dry cabin tucked away in the beautiful Blue Mountains just outside of Dayton. Located about 25 minutes from town and only a short drive from the scenic Umatilla National Forest and the breathtaking Tucannon River area, this peaceful retreat is the perfect basecamp for outdoor adventures, hunting trips, hiking, fishing, or simply unwinding in the quiet of the mountains.

This cozy 500 sq. ft. cabin is a true off-grid experience designed for those who enjoy simple living and the beauty of the outdoors. Please note that the cabin does not have running water, so guests should plan and pack accordingly.

Cabin Features:

  • Sleeps up to 6 guests
  • Queen bed, twin bunk beds, and futon in the living room
  • Bring your own bedding and linens
  • Wood-burning fireplace for heat
  • Spacious 900 sq. ft. deck with solar-powered lighting
  • Picnic table for outdoor dining
  • Roomy, clean outhouse

Cooking

  • Small Blackstone griddle
  • 2-burner camp cook stove
  • Guests must bring their own propane tanks and connections

Power

  • The cabin itself is off-grid.
  • Guests may bring a generator and fuel if electricity is desired.
  • A generator shed is provided to help dampen sound. Please plug in the fan when using the shed to ensure proper ventilation and prevent generator damage.

Firewood

  • Firewood is not included, but can be provided for an additional charge if arranged in advance.
  • There is typically a strict burn ban in place from July through September, fires must be attented at all times and only used for warming and cooking.
  • Guests should always check current resctrictions with the Washing State Department of Natural Resources before starting any fire.
  • **Only burn clean wood in the firepit or fireplace. Please do not burn garbage, cans, plastics or other materials. **
  • YOU PACK IT IN - YOU PACK IT OUT, help keep our space and forest clean.

Pet Friendly

Dogs are welcome! Please keep pets under control and do not allow them to roam, as wildlife is occasionally present in the area including cougars, bears, wolves, deer, elk, and moose.
