Dayton-Pomeroy-Blue Mountains KOA

Fishing enthusiasts and RV travelers will find this former KOA location positioned along Highway 12 outside Dayton, with full hookups available for rigs up to 50 feet. Now operating as The Last Resort, the campground provides electric, water, and sewer connections alongside shower facilities and a small store. Sites run somewhat tight according to recent visitors, so larger RVs should call ahead to confirm space availability.

The campground sits just up the road from area lakes that offer fishing opportunities, with hiking trails extending beyond the water. Forrest R. notes the location has "not alot of shade but just up road from the lakes to fish." The facility includes propane, gas, and dump station services, with friendly owners who provide local area guidance and recreational access information to nearby wind farms.

Road access requires attention to route selection. GPS systems may direct visitors down Hartsock Road, a steep canyon route with narrow sections that can challenge braking systems. Staying on Highway 12 provides easier access to the campground. The Tucannon area south of the property has experienced road closures due to washouts, affecting access to some regional recreation areas.

For additional camping options in the region, Tucannon Campground lies eight miles south when road conditions permit access.

Many mentioned friendly owners and good facilities including full hookups and showers. Sites are clean but tightly packed, so larger RVs should call ahead. The campground provides convenient access to area lakes and hiking.

Wildlife Everywhere!

We dry camped down the road, so my review is from using The Last Resort dump station ($10 fee), and little store. The owners where super friendly and helpful guides of the area. They have cabins, RV sites (a little tight so if you are over 40 feet call ahead), dump station, propane, gas, and water.

They also provide recreational access to the local wind farms.

Last Resort?

Ok so if this is Last Resort this place was cool. First of, IT'S NO LONGER A KIA. Second, if maps send you down Hartsock Rd ( a right turn just outside of downtown Dayton) I don't recommend taking it. You will come to a steep canyon called Hartsock Rd. While the road is OK, not very wide, the grade is pretty steep. My brakes were cooking. Stay on highway 12. The campground itself was cool. Not alot of shade but just up road from the lakes to fish. Good hiking and walking beyond the lakes. We went two months ago and at Tucannon campground (south of campground) the road was closed due to washouts. I enjoyed my time. Showers, full hookups, good people.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Last Resort campground located near Pomeroy, WA?

The Last Resort campground is located near Dayton, not Pomeroy. It's situated in the Blue Mountains region. When traveling to the campground, be careful with GPS directions that might route you down Hartsock Road just outside downtown Dayton. This route includes a steep canyon section that can be challenging for larger vehicles. Consider contacting the campground directly for the best driving directions.

What amenities are available at Last Resort on the Tucannon River?

The Last Resort offers a variety of amenities including RV sites, cabins, a dump station ($10 fee), propane service, gas, and water. They also have a small store on-site where you can purchase supplies. The facilities are well-maintained and clean. While the RV sites are somewhat tightly packed, the campground is well-run overall. For larger RVs over 40 feet, it's recommended to call ahead to ensure they can accommodate your vehicle.

How does Last Resort compare to the KOA in Lewiston?

The Last Resort is no longer affiliated with KOA. Unlike the Lewiston KOA, this campground has a more intimate setting with sites that are somewhat closely arranged. The Last Resort offers personalized service with friendly, helpful owners who can provide guidance about the local area. Facilities are good but more basic than what you might expect at a larger KOA. The campground maintains cleanliness standards and provides essential services like dump stations and supply options. It's better suited for smaller to medium-sized RVs compared to potentially larger sites at the Lewiston KOA.
