Five sites tucked along forest service roads make Midway Campground a compact overnight option in the Umatilla National Forest. The drive in follows winding mountain routes that climb through timber country, with logging trails branching off the main access road for campers who want to explore on foot.
Most visitors find themselves alone or sharing the space with just one other party, even during busy weekends when dispersed campers use the area's single vault toilet throughout the night. The facility stays clean despite the steady traffic from nearby dispersed camping spots. A short trail leads directly from the campground into the surrounding forest, offering views along the way but no specific destination.
Campers must pack all their water since none is available on-site. Nick B. notes the campground has "no water, so bring your own." The elevation provides cool nights even when days run warm, making campfires comfortable during summer visits. For those seeking additional overnight options, campers can explore [camping near Dayton] or check out nearby Panjab Campground and Godman Campground & Trailhead.
Reservations are accepted, though the small size means booking ahead makes sense during peak season.
