Camping before the river

This is a small section right before getting to the river. We just happen to like how flat this spot is and still being extremely close to the river without being right in it. There is a spot for boats to let off and that can be a bit noisy (boat launched around 6 a.m with a loud trailer) at this particular spot. Fire rich was made and we enjoyed a nice late campfire. Overall a good spot to stay and setup. Star link works great here

Private riverside

Nice and secluded right on the river! The road coming back is definitely rough but was fine in our F-150. The fishing is not great as the river runs too fast through there. But overall a great spot to stay!

River camping 30 min away from hoh river visitor center

Camping right next to river. Tall bushes for shade. Need to drive over very bumpy dirt road to get to sites near river. Then need to drive over rocky road to get into sites near river. The sites were well tucked away and cozy. Just make sure your tires can handle the bumps and rocks.

Great Spot Next to River

Trying to find an open camping site next to the river was proving very difficult, but this semi-hidden pull off was perfect. There’s a fire ring and some extra firewood collected to the side. Beautiful river access that feels secluded. Could hear other sites faintly but was the perfect balance of wanting to be alone but knowing others are around. Highly recommend.

Great quick spot with a river view and mountain.

Went tent camping there on Sep 30 into Oct. 1. Had a spot right next to the river with a fire pit. Logs provided just down the road for $5. My 03 Honda Accord made it there just fine, might have to be smart with sedans as there was an interesting spot where you could scrape the underside of your car. Not really any people if you get there early.

Beautiful and secluded

It was difficult to find a place to camp. Most spots are first-come basis so most spots were occupied when looking both in the morning and evening. There are many beautiful views in the area!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find dispersed camping spots along the Hoh River near Forks, WA?

Dispersed camping spots along the Hoh River can be found by driving down bumpy dirt roads that lead to the riverbank. These sites are scattered along the river and often feature existing fire rings. Most camping spots are located right next to the river, offering beautiful views and a sense of seclusion. Sites fill up quickly on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early improves your chances of securing a spot. The terrain can be challenging to navigate with lower clearance vehicles, though some sedans can access the area with careful driving. Look for pull-offs from the main road that lead to established camping areas.

Is there free camping available near Forks, Washington?

Yes, free dispersed camping is available along the Hoh River near Forks, Washington. These sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservation system in place. The camping spots feature fire rings, and firewood can be purchased for around $5 from vendors just down the road. While the camping itself is free, be prepared for rough road conditions leading to the riverside sites. The free camping areas offer a more primitive experience with no formal facilities, but provide excellent river access and a secluded outdoor experience.

What is the Hoh River Trust Campground and how does it differ from dispersed camping options?

The Hoh River Trust manages land along the river, providing more structured camping opportunities compared to the completely dispersed options in the area. Unlike fully dispersed camping, these designated sites may have basic amenities like established fire rings and more defined camping areas. The Trust sites still offer riverside camping with natural settings and privacy, but within a managed framework that helps protect the river ecosystem. While dispersed camping along the Hoh River is more primitive and sometimes harder to access via rough roads, Trust sites typically provide a middle ground between developed campgrounds and completely wild camping. Both options require self-sufficiency and leave-no-trace practices.
