The Best Camping Near Chimacum, Washington

I think this is the better of the two Oak Bay campgrounds (upper and lower). It has some nice sites in the woods with privacy. There are a couple of sites with good views, but they are very close to each other. 

I would recommend camping in one of the wooded sites, and then walking/driving to the Lower Campground for the day. That's a much more beautiful spot, but there are no trees and the sites are right next to each other with no privacy.

You're also very close to Marrowstone Island, which is one of the best kept secrets of the Olympic Peninsula.

Better of Oak Bay Campgrounds - Gorgeous view!

Campsites are super close together, not much privacy.  We easily overheard our neighbors conversations and cars were driving by campsite frequently in the evening.  Also, the water is pretty much blocked by the RV sites.  The ground was mostly rock so getting tent pegs in the ground was difficult. 

Crowded and close together 

The upper campground is nicer than the lower (basically a gravel lot for $20). The upper has a lot of trees to divide the non-electric sites nicely. Sites feel far apart but since it’s not super green, you can hear neighbors. There’s a vault toilet, trash and water spigot on-site. There’s a nice playground for the kids. It’s $20 for the non electric. Electric/water sites are available and are full sun along the water. Really nice area to walk the dog and very quiet at night.

Pro: My little one loves the playground and a green field. Beautiful view of the bay. Reasonable price.
Con: No shower place. Hard to fill the fresh water tank.

Upper Oak Bay CG: A nice day use play park for kids. I vault toilet. No showers. One potable water spigot. Rest are for washing.

There is NO path down to the lagoon other than a precipitous dirt chute requiring a rope to climb back up.

Lower Oak Bay CG is wide open, so better for RVs and Vans. Easy shoreline access for small boats.

OK camp spot. No showers. Lagoon that fronts the park smells at low tides.

We checked out this campground but decided to stay at the Lower Bay campground. This campground (upper) is just more traditional, with separate sites and loops and a host. Some of the sites have a nice water view. We liked the Lower Bay because it was more peaceful and calm, right on the water, (cheaper). I have to say if there were other campers at Lower Bay we may have preferred the Upper Bay, just because there's more privacy from your neighbor.
