Description
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, cattlemen and homesteaders tried to make a go of it along the banks of the Strawberry River in the area now occupied by the reservoir and dam. Their story is one of hardship, perseverance and facing near starvation in a very hostile and harsh environment. Winters were hard, long and extremely cold. Their cattle and livestock often froze during these winter months, and the short growing season was hindered by flooding, hailstorms, early frosts and other calamities. They nicknamed the area "Starvation" and it was from this reference that the highway bridge, reservoir, dam and state park received their names.
- If towing a trailer in most sites, no extra vehicles can be accommodated. You must call the park if you have an additional vehicle question. (435) 738-2326.
- If an additional vehicle is approved for your site, you will be charged half a camping fee per night upon entrance to the park.
Rabbit Gulch is half site specific and half walk-in. Juniper Point and Knight Hollow are not site-specific, each reservation is for a single vehicle only. Campers in these primitive areas may use the showers in the main campground for $2.
Extra vehicle fees only apply to beach and mountain view campgrounds, they do no apply to Indian bay, rabbit gulch, juniper point, knight hollow, or the group areas. All vehicles in Indian bay, rabbit gulch, juniper point, and knight hollow pay the same price per vehicle. This means that if you paid $15 for the original reservation vehicle in Indian bay, you will pay $15 per additional vehicle per night in Indian bay. In the group areas you pay per person, and not per vehicle.
- Must bring your own firewood.
