This site is BLM land located along La Verkin East Overlook Road. There were several tiny houses parked back in here, as well as many rigs. The road is good for 2wd when dry. When wet, roads could be treacherous.

The Best Camping Near Virgin, Utah

La Verkin Overlook is free dispursed BLM camping between Hurricaine and Zion NP. It has zero amenities, with the exception of the occasional firepit. Tons of RVs were parked in this area as well as a bunch of tiny houses! It was super cool to check them out! The road could definitely be rough when wet (the super slippery muddy kind of road), but when it’s dry, we were able to get our 2 WD Pontiac vibe in there. You can hear the highway from this site, and cars are on the road all night.

The 360 views are great from this site, plus it gives you quick access to the National Park, as well as quick access to La Verkin which has gas, grocery, etc.

As a Ranger, I occasionally get the chance to review gear for The Dyrt. La Verkin Overlook was THE PLACE to review these, as we did a HUGE adventure climb in Zion. OOFOS shoes are all about recovery, and my feet definitely needed recover after our 14 mile, desert bushwacking, 4000 ft of elevation gain, adventure of a time trying to climb West Temple. It was a LONG day on our feet and we pretty much limped back to the car.

Sliding into my OOFOS slides was AMAZING. Seriously, it felt like my feet took a breath of fresh air. Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from a “recovery” shoe, but it was like walking on clouds. I also love the color and design. Looking at them online, I expected them to look a little tacky, but wearing them, they looked cute.

My one comment is that they do run small. I am typically an 8/8.5, however the site said that if you wear a half size, you should order up. I picked a size 9 and while my footprint fit the size of the base, the actual strap is extremely snug – to the point of where I really have to squish my foot forward. But maybe I just have “tall/fat” feet? Once they are on though, they’re not slipping off or around and I was able to walk around camp rather than shuffle. The downside is that wearing them as camp shoes with socks is out of the picture. I also ordered a flip flop version- and have no issues size wise with them (also a size 9), so if you think you have "fat" feet - that might be the better shoe.

I would definitely recommend a pair for anyone who has long days on their feet! The next day, I was ready for more hiking while my husband limped behind me.

OOFOS slide sandals at La Verkin Overlook

The blm lands we a great way to camp close to the park but outside of designated camping. It’s centrally located between La Verkin and Zion which makes accessibility great! it’s just flat open planes perfect to set up for the night or pull up an rv for some time. there’s trails out there for bikes and the sunsets are breathtaking! 

The key to Zion

This is a rugged dispersed camping area. You have an amazing view here. I made it to this location in a Fiat. So if you're looking for a nice site to camp at but are worried about vehicle clearance, then this would be a great option.

Beautiful sunset and sunrise

Many spots to choose from. The road was dry so I was able to get to a spot in the far back closer to the outlook in a Mazda CX-5 front wheel drive without issue. Left my tent and camp while we set out to Zion during the day. Everything was safe and untouched when we got back. The designated spots are well spread out. Found this camp ground during a last minute drip to Zion. Awesome views!

Need four wheel drive to get to the furthest campsite. Great 360 views. 

La Verkin overlook

We were able to get a 2WD nissan altima up here when it was dry &amp; had a great night. The stars were beautiful! 

Such a nice spot 

We didn’t stay here because it was too hot. It’s very easy to find and there is a lot of spots. Plenty of flat ground for tents or space for Roof Top Tents. Just right off the road. The lower sites any 2wd could make the upper need higher clearance. NO SHADE so we left. 

Lots of Areas

This was a great, free place to camp under the stars after Zion. Only 30-40 mins from the Visitor Center and close to La Verkin with lots of grocery stores and restaurants. 

Just find a place to tent and you’re good to go. 

The first night we were there, we felt super safe! Loved the view and the quietness. The second night (Saturday before Labor Day), it was wayyyyy busier and we left at midnight after a drunk driver almost drove into our tent. 

Beautiful place, totally free, no amenities, really rough/rocky roads. Totally worth it 

Great views and beautiful stargazing 

Nice spot! We had awesome views of the sunrise and the sunset. There were multiple little hilltops for individual groups and a flatter portion near the beginning of the road. Very exposed to the elements but still felt private.

Very rocky and pothole-ee area. Still free though, and excellent cell service!

Really rough roads , but...

Cool view of the city at night and good spot to catch the sunset. Roads weren't bad at all for a 24 ft class c.

Good spot

We had a reservation at Zion River
Resort, which also seems nice btw, but unfortunately we had to cancel last minute because my husband works from home and couldn’t get any wifi reception even with their wifi. So we scouted out this spot and it was perfect for a quick stay. Easy to find. We have Verizon and we’re able to get reception. The road in is a bit rough but it’s a beautiful, quiet spot and we felt safe.

We stayed in this area in the Summer of 2020 during our visit to Zion NP. Although we did not actually sleep in this particular BLM spot, I saved it for later for a potential overnight parking spot when we return with a conversion van. 

Road is accessible to most vehicles, my Subaru Crosstrek had no issue, but there could be some tricky spots for lower or 2WD vehicles. This site is aptly named, as it is an overlook rather than a traditional campsite, and most people seemed to be using it as such. Good place for temporary boondocking. Location is also ideal, very close to Hurricane with all essentials. If I remember correctly, there is a grocery store/hardware store combo (I’d never seen this before so I remember it clearly) very close to this spot. 

Free Overnight Car Camp/Parking

There is actually very little BLM land along this particular stretch of La Verkin Overlook Rd and no designated sites. However, there are lots of rigs camping. If you do camp be respectful of private property signs and pack out your garbage

This spot was good!  We drove in at night and found a spot that had a fire ring already made with rocks...at the top of a hill.  Great views...excellent cell service.  We stayed here to go to zion!  Was relatively quiet when we went (December)

Premo location  to Zion and others

First of all , being able to camp free on BLM land has been a huge blessing for us &amp; we’ve lucked out so far! Please continue to take care of these places so we can continue to enjoy the solitude! 
This site is about 15 miles outside of the main entrance to Zion. It’s great when you want to get away &amp; out of the people/tourist filled hustle &amp; bustle going on around the restaurants, hotels &amp; resorts right outside the park. While the shops &amp; eateries looked lovely, it wasn’t doable for  us with 4 pups! It was a beautiful night &amp; a perfect night for a stroll. After hiking the park with the pups , we just wanted to settle in to some peace . 
Based on other reviews , we took advice on how to maneuver in &amp; find a site. Boy oh boy was it a bumpy ride! If you have a travel trailer like us , make sure your cupboards are nice &amp; secured shut or your stuff will go flying out! 
We have a plenty big truck &amp; a 19ft trailer . The ride will likely feel more like sailing on very choppy water . More bouncy than anything. 
We drove in about a mile &amp; found an empty site. It wasn’t level but we made due. It had a neat Little Rock built fire ring someone left . It was clean &amp; completely waste free.  The sites are not marked ! Just drive until you see a clearing &amp; make it home for the night or two...
It was pitch black out , others around us but also nowhere near us. Dead silence &amp; a sky packed full of visible stars. It was a nice little layover after a day at the park &amp; before our next destination!

Great Spot

Along the entire La Verkin overlook road there are private property signs blocking off any potential pull offs. Including this no camping sign at the end of the road next to the actual overlook. Plus side, the overlook is really beautiful.
