RVs up to 70 feet can navigate the paved access road that leads to this full-hookup campground within Deer Creek State Park. Great Horned Owl Campground sits close enough to Deer Creek Reservoir that some campers can carry kayaks down to Walsburg Bay, though the proximity to both water and road creates steady activity from boats and vehicles throughout the day.
The campground operates with sites arranged in a loop configuration, where RVs and tents share the same areas. Sites vary considerably in their terrain—some tent campers report dealing with slopes while others find level ground, particularly around site 4 which offers less shade but flatter conditions. The day-use parking area sits directly adjacent to sites 20 and 21, which affects privacy for those spots. Clean flush restrooms and warm showers serve the campground, with drinking water available throughout.
Campers consistently mention the maintained condition of facilities and the helpfulness of park rangers, who provide information about nearby hiking options. Rachel W. notes that "bathrooms and showers were clean, drinking water tasted fine." The reservoir allows fishing and paddleboarding, though water conditions can be rough depending on weather and boat traffic.
The campground connects to three other camping areas within the state park, giving visitors access to Fox Den Campground — Deer Creek State Park for those preferring a different loop configuration.
