Crooked Wild and Scenic River
Centered around a single, sentinel Ponderosa Pine tree, this small campground features six campsites and a group use area. Across the Crooked River, the photogenic Rocky Canyon and it___s vertical rimrock cliffs offer photographers a variety of ever-changing light and depth perspectives.
Know Before You Go:
Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are accepted. Potable water is available year-round at Chimney Rock Campground, 1.7 miles miles west (upriver) on State HIghway 27. Cell phone service is not available in the campground. Watch for bicyclists: the section of State Highway 27 between Prineville and Bowman Dam is designated as the Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway.
Point of Interest:
Since 2008, reintroduction of Steelhead trout has been underway in the Deschutes River Basin, which includes the wild and scenic Chimney Rock segment of the Crooked River. The success of this reintroduction is in part dependent on stresses placed on this fish. Anglers should keep them in the water and release them immediately; the harvesting of Steelhead in the Crooked River is unlawful. ADA Access: No accessible facilities.

Great FCFS BLM spot
Something about Central Oregon. The smells, the sounds and the views are all found right here at the BLM Lone Pine campground.
We grabbed up the group site, right near the entrance. It’s only about 25 yards from the river, but other sites are closer. No deal breaker by any means. Plenty of room for everyone at this group site!
Two tables at the fire ring, and some nice shade as well. It’s quiet, and the river rolls by with a light rush. There is a loft toilet at the day use area a few yards away as well as in the main camp area.
You’ll have to bring your own firewood as collecting is prohibited.

Small Campground on the Crooked River
This small campground is one of many along the Crooked Wild and Scenic River. It has only 7 spots, 1 being a group site. The campground sits between the Crooked River and The highway. Luckily the highway is not a busy one and traffic didn't cause too much noise at night. The spots were large and could fit multiple tents or some RV's depending on size. Some of the spots were next to the River while a couple were nearby the river and more next to the highway. There were several river access spots for people looking to fish. I did stay here during hunting season, so a lot of the people camping looked like hunters and were firing off guns very early in the morning.
There was 1 pit toilet and trash bins, but no potable water.
I would recommend this campground if you find yourself in this area. Does seem like it could fill up in the summer.
