Part of the US Forest Service's Sabine National Forest, Boles Field Campground operates as a first-come, first-served facility where sites cluster closely together in an open layout. The $6 nightly fee includes electric and water hookups at each site, though Annette K. notes the "soft ground, and potholes in the dirt road" can challenge larger rigs during access.
A major road runs directly through the campground, dividing it into two sections and generating consistent traffic noise that reviewers mention affects the camping atmosphere throughout the night. The surrounding forest provides ample firewood at treelines, and campers report minimal wildlife encounters with food storage. Cell service varies significantly by carrier, with Verizon running slow while Sprint and T-Mobile maintain better connections.
The facility includes a basic bathhouse with warm water operated by push-button controls, plus a group picnic shelter and amphitheater available for additional reservation fees. A walking trail behind the pavilion leads to a creek and historical stone steps that previous visitors have documented. For those seeking alternatives, Ragtown Campground sits 9.4 miles southeast.
The campground works best for budget-conscious campers who don't mind road noise and can navigate the challenging access road conditions.
