Gorgeous spot, crowded on the weekend
You must have high-clearance 4WD to get to these sites. Also like one of the other reviewers states, this does not mean that you’ll be one of few campers at the lake. We found a beautiful campsite that was secluded and settled in. Then we learned that a trail encircles the lake and goes through all of the campsites. Lots of folks walking on the trail (and thus through our “secluded” site) including with off leash dogs. We also had someone come camp right on top of us, even though we could see open spots across the lake. We could hear partiers across the lake but they were far away and they settled down after it got dark. Everyone cleared out after Sunday and we had the lake practically to ourselves. The lake was beautiful and if you’re going for the views and don’t mind other people around, you won’t be disappointed. Or maybe just go during the week when few people are present. The poor air quality in the valley from the Oregon wild fires probably also made this spot more popular. Everyone we talked to came in from Salt Lake City for the weekend.
Perfect spot to camp!
We did not have four wheel drive so we did not drive all the way to the lake. Found some great camping spots off the road about a half mile before the turnoff to the lake. We were able to walk to the lake to check out the views. Could hear some people in the distance, but they were not bothersome and it seemed pretty secluded otherwise!
Great site, poor experience with people
There are numerous campsites spread around the lake and many are right on the water which is awesome. From the reviews here and a few other sites I expected this area to be much less crowded due to the tough access road to get to the lake. Luckily, the sites are decently spread out so it is somewhat secluded.
However, we had a group camp right on top of us at 2:30AM. They parked and setup a tents 20 feet away from out firepit. They had no intentions of leaving and were quite rude. Dog was off leash when we woke up and was barking at us while they did nothing about it and continued to sleep. Swearing at their children and disrespecting the land. Luckily another site opened up later in the morning so we packed up and moved.
Again, this area is beautiful with nice campsites, just don't expect it to be as secluded as the other reviews state.
