Great campground with great activities nearby

This is a great Basecamp to explore the Uintahs. Note that there is no easy river access from any of the sites we explored. This is partly due to the overgrowth and partly due to all of the water in mid June. We made it from our camp spot (#11) but it required crossing logs, bogs, streams, and bushwhacking.

That said, it’s a clean campground in a great setting. The sound of the river drowns out most of the highway noise this time of year, and it’s a great jumping off point for exploring the lakes and falls farther up the Mirror Lake Highway.

Note zero Verizon cell service in the campground.

Didn’t see the campground hosts once in a 3-day weekend stay (always a nice little bonus).

Nice paved campground with level sites

Really enjoyed this campground for for four days. Some road noise during the day but was acceptable. The water was turned off but was prepared because I reserved the site on recreation.gov where I read about the water situation

Soapstone Campground in Uintas

Soapstone is a beautiful campground.  It is a very tight road and difficult to get into sites as it is obvious it was not built with 30 ft. trailers in mind.  However, with some work, we did get into out beautiful site. We had an amazing time.

Our only two negativies were the tight road getting into sites and a very noisy Mirror Lake Highway 24/7.  These two reasons will keep us from staying here again.

Beautiful camp site. Several types of evergreens. It was quiet during our stay. Large fire pit. No services, bring lots of water. Some sites are for tents.

Best off lake pay site.

One of the best off lake sites, well shaded, close to the river and the sites are all very nice. I don't usually stop at main stream sites but those is a good one

Real Woodsie camping

This is a great campground especially for off road vehicles. Our family has been going there for years and it is one of my favorite spots in the uintas. The bugs are minimal.

Shady and close to the creek with friendly hosts!

This was one of the best non-lakeside campsites I stopped at while moving along Mirror Lake Hwy! It had plenty of shade and was very close to the Lower Provo River. Each campsite had a picnic table and a permanent fire ring and multiple vault toilets scattered around the campground. The camp hosts were also very nice and I chatted with them for a little bit as they passed by on their golf cart. They offer firewood but again spigot access was nonexistent due to the dry winter but one can filter water out of the Provo if they have a large volume filtration system. Nearby are the numerous trails and roads of Spring Canyon, that given the right mode of transportation can take you to Alexander Lake and Hourglass Lake. As with other developed campgrounds in the area, you need to pay both a $23 a night campground fee and the Mirror Lake Hwy Rec. Pass which is $6 for 3 days and $12 for the week. There are also double sites available for $46 and triple sites available for $70 if you anticipate a large group camping trip

So Pretty

I live in Salt Lake City, and this was a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it. This campground is right along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, and the area is gorgeous. The campground is right along the upper Provo River, and is just a short jaunt across the road for some good fly fishing. The campground hosts were the best I have ever seen. They went way above and beyond. Their site was all decked out with crafts and activities for the kids, including scavenger hunts for the different flora and fauna in the area. I can't say enough about this place. I will be back, for sure!

Close yet far

We dry camped a little higher than the actual campground. The campground was full, but it was paved and there was a dump station, which is a plus. There are pit toilets, but the group sites weren’t large enough for our group.

Lovely Campground Near Entrance to Uinta National Forest

We visited Soapstone Campground in mid-July and the weather was perfect! The sites are well spaced and large, with lots of trees to provide good shade and adequate privacy from neighbors. There are pit toilets and dumpsters spaced well throughout the campground, and the dirt road throughout is very well maintained.

Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You'll need to bring your own water, and the only opportunity to refill your jugs is either at Lost Creek campground farther up the Mirror Lake Highway (to the east), or back in town in Kamas (to the west). Bring more than you think you'll need!

During the day and ESPECIALLY in the evening, the mosquitoes are pretty intense throughout the whole summer. If you're planning to spend a lot of time outside of your tent (which you should!), bring lots of bugspray and citronella candles! We saw several people with screen tents over their picnic tables, which we thought was pretty brilliant.

There are also bears in the High Uintas and there are not bear vaults in the campsites, so plan to keep your food IN THE CAR except when you're eating it!

Overall a really excellent campground for a great little escape close to SLC.
