    Boca Chica Beach

    Desolate Texas Beach

Boca Chica Beach is the end of the road for South Texas. The beach is about 15 miles outside of the Port of Brownsville Texas and very close to the Mexican Border. The beach is a wild and desolate place. It’s quite a contrast from the overly commercial and manicured beaches to the north on South Padre Island. The beach has a lot of debris from river run off and storms. The amount of trash and plastic waste can be overwhelming at times. The campsites are primitive and only include metal trash barrels. This is a good day trip for locals or a place for visitors who really want to get away. Of note, the beach is currently closed due to Covid 19. However, locals are exercising and walking their dogs despite the closure. When it’s open, you can drive on the beach but will need a 4x4. They don’t allow atvs or RVs on the beach. You will be able to see the Space X facility on the road near the beach.

    Boca Chica Beach

Rarely open for camping due to launch activity

Nice beach to visit, especially to see starship prep activity. Unlikely to be able to camp long term. Best to stay rocket ranch, raptors roost or starship station to view a launch!

The beach is about 15 miles outside of the Port of Brownsville Texas and very close to the Mexican border. Tips for camping with families

Activity schedules: Check community calendar events when staying at larger parks. Many offer "shuffleboard, horse shoes, cards five nights a week, pool table and country jam on Mondays," along with special events in large community halls.

Beach preparation: For day trips to coastal areas from Weslaco (approximately 60-70 miles), pack necessary supplies as services are limited. Weather planning: The Rio Grande Valley can experience strong winds and occasional cold fronts between December and February, requiring proper clothing layers despite the generally mild winter climate.

Tips from RVers

Big rig access: Certain parks accommodate larger vehicles better than others. Natures Resort offers "big-rig-friendly" spaces with fifty-amp hookups and full sewer connections, while many smaller parks have more limited electrical capabilities.

Seasonal reservation timing: Winter visitors should reserve spaces 6-12 months in advance, particularly for January through March when the winter visitor population peaks in the Rio Grande Valley.

Utility connections: Full-service sites with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections are available at select locations but may require advance booking, especially during peak winter months when glamping close to Weslaco, Texas is most popular.
