## Overview

 Hickory Creek sits on the extremely popular Lewisville Lake near Dallas, Texas. The almost 30,000-acre reservoir attracts a fair amount of visitors in summer months with warm water temperatures and excellent fishing opportunities.
## Recreation

 Visitors at Lewisville Lake enjoy picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing and relaxing. Photographers will stay entertained with wildlife and colorful sunsets, while hikers and bikers like to explore the 50 miles of natural surface and paved trails surrounding the lake.
## Facilities

 The large campground boasts 121 sites with electric hookups. Tent primitive walk-in sites are not available at this time. Park amenities include hot showers, a dump station, and boat ramp. 
## Natural Features

 The lake stems from the Elm Fork of the Trinity River in northern Texas, and offers little visibility, but plenty of room for boating and watercraft. The park sits on the Hickory Creek Arm of Lewisville Lake, very near to the suburbs of Dallas, Texas. 
## Nearby Attractions

 Several public golf courses are located around the lake, and horseback riding opportunities are available, too. Hickory Creek is just 35 miles away from downtown Dallas.

The Best Camping Near Lake Dallas, Texas

Some campsites have no shade or scrawny trees. A few of those campsites are right near Lake Lewisville so I guess it’s a tradeoff. Plenty of people swimming in the lake. Good for families, lots of activities for kids. That being said, in the summer and weekends this is a campground with a lot of noisy activity, even at night. Showers and toilets were decently clean.
Some good hikes around the lake. Some were paved and ADA accessible. Nature preserve nearby is great for birdwatching.



Very busy

The park has undergone some repairs and maintenance but we love camping here.  Peaceful and lots of wildlife so close to home.

Absolutely awesome 

I like this COE campground because conveniently located near where I live, and if I’m lucky I can snag a site with trees and lake access. But the tradeoff for convenience is proximity to civilization. This definitely isn’t wilderness and as another reviewer pointed out, the campground can be noisy. It’s located adjacent to I-35, just west of the Lake Lewisville bridge, so there’s traffic noise depending on how close you’re camped to the road. The electric was recently upgraded after the flooding this year. So there’s 50 amp available now too. I camped at site 39 and it was an asphalt/gravel pad and fairly level. Water pressure was good and there was lots of shade and ample privacy between sites in this section. Sites on the point have few trees and wide open spaces, but the lake view is expansive. Bathrooms and showers were clean and functioning. There’s a bike/walking path that goes around and through the park and a beach. In my opinion a few of the best sites are on a little peninsula (sites 91, 92, 93 looked prime) with a little sandy beach and access into a cove of the lake. I’ll be back.

Camping in Suburbia

Since the primitive tent sites are down due to flooding, we set up our tent on a nice RV spot near the lake (site 9). If you drive around, you’ll find some good spots like this for tent camping. A little expensive at $30 per night, but it was still worth it. Pretty water. Gorgeous sunset. Good fire pit. Running water and electricity was nice. 

Only complaint: our neighbors a couple sites down were blasting music until 1am. Not a peaceful experience for sleeping. I wish the park attendants would have stopped them sooner, as the official quiet time is 10pm. Otherwise, excellent spot!  

Tent Camping 

Nice wooded lots. Views of lake were great. Not a lot of close access to lake from our camping spot. Bathrooms were clean. Rained a lot so didn’t get to explore as much as we would have liked. Did like the lighted power poles! 

Nice little hidden gem

The park overall was a small one. Our spot was a nice lake front area that was very spacious and a beautiful view.  There is no playground that we could find, even though I read online that they had one. The bike trails were pretty short. Plenty of ducks to feed, but they were not interested or just didn’t like the boat. To our surprise, there was also plenty of snakes! Small Campground with few amenities

This is a great spot. When you’re here you don’t feel like you’re near the city at all. But you have everything you need just a few minutes away. Good restaurants if you don’t want to cook and stores if you forget to pack something like we always do.

Nice location 

Beautiful

Location: The location is tucked away in the small lakeside town of Hickory Creek...which is surrounded by Denton to the north and Lewisville/Dallas to the south. Even though it’s in a highly populated area, it feels very remote when you get into the park. 

The car camp sites: They have a variety of sites that can be tucked into the trees or more in the open when bordering the lake. The car camp sites are ideal for families with playgrounds easy to access and well maintained. Connections for electric and water at each site are what you would expect. 

The primitive sites: There are a few select primitive sites that offer some great views and feel much more remote than you actually are. These sites are all hike in with no close parking to the site. The hike isn’t far so multiple trips to the car are possible. 

The primitive locations offer a great way to dip your toes into the world of backpacking. 

Great Location for Quick Trips

This was here? Little tricky to find at night with construction, but we had a fun time. Got a nice site by the water and just off the main trail. Was great for a one night wilderness trip amongst friends. 

Who knew...

A lot of space between sites, well level and paved, family oriented, very quite, beautiful lake and tree sites, lighted power supply post with all the amps available. Fire pits, bbq, picnic tables and some with gazebo.

Very nice

We stayed 14 nights here and really enjoyed it. The campground is huge with a variety of spots and plenty of space between them. We stayed in site 51 and really liked the view we had out onto the lake. I even saw a hawk pull a fish out of the water one day! Bathrooms were clean and my husband used the shower one and said they were nice. We have a 36’ fifth wheel and the site easily accommodated us. It was the most level, but it also wasn’t the worst either. There is definitely some room for updating, but over all this was a great campground with very friendly camp hosts. 

Quiet and clean

This is an Army Corps of Engineer park. We stayed on the lake. The site was large and private. The park is easy to access. The bathrooms were clean, warm and well lit. 

Great Park, Great Site

We love coming here because it’s convenient, private, and by the water. All the spots are great! Our favorites are in the 90~94 loop and a friend said the 20-24 loop is also great waterfront spots. 

Bathrooms and showers are clean. Easy dump station. And great hookups. 

Primitive nature trails are great for collecting sticks for the campfire!

Hickory Creek Park is one of our favorite campgrounds that we visited in 2021 so far(it's tough to beat too). The location of this campground feels secluded from the city but close to the highway so you can be in the city within a few minutes drive. The campsites are spread out and have great water pressure and electrical hook-ups no matter what type you need(50, 30 or 15 amps). The layout of the campground allows you to take long walks throughout the different loops and walking paths themselves. The bath houses are like your standard state park sites and nothing to write home about. The only downside is the overall air traffic that you hear and see over the park from the Dallas-Fort Worth airport(it's cool initially but after a few nights it does get old). Did I forget to mention this campground is surrounded by water! There are many sites that you can stay at and have a lakeside campground(the water appears clean and our dog loved it!). We would recommend this campground and will stay here again on a visit to the Dallas area!

Great spot for extended stay and to enjoy the lake!

Such a gift to have this great campground only minutes from our home. A few nights here made us consider going to fulltime RV life. I recommend choosing a site on one of the coves. On the open water will have a little traffic noise and choppier water. In a cove the water is calm and quiet. Our first stay was in the youth group area-very nice. We spent time walking around highlighting favorite sites on the map for future visits. The second visit we stayed at site 82 and loved it. We had a very large site with trees for our hammocks and direct access to a great swimming spot. There was a large flock of ducks nesting there that swam with us. There's lots of kayaking opportunities and nice trails. Several of the trails are paved which is great for kids bikes, etc. The bath houses have large shower stalls. Groceries and restaurants are about 10 minutes away if you need anything. The gate is locked from 10:00 PM-6:00 AM so the campground is safe. Even though this is within the metroplex, you'll never know it. There's lots of wildlife, trees and peace.

Peaceful, secure and spacious space to call home away from home

This has been my favorite experience so far as a newbie to camping in a travel trailer. The park was very well-maintained and check in was fairly easy. The park hosts and folks at the gate were all kind and nice. There are many spots that are shaded and Lakeside. Great spacing in between sites. We are already booked to go again in November. There isn’t a park that we saw for kids but there is plenty to do on the lake if you have the equipment.

Fantastic, Serene Park

Lewisville Lake has some of the best restroom and shower facilities we’ve seen.  Always clean, accessible (not cramped) and the showers have a large dressing area.  

We like the deer that regularly come through, easy lake access and walking trails.  

If you’re looking for something more remote, this is NOT for you, but if you’re camping with little kids, Walmart is right down the road which may be convenient.

Large campsites and open spaces. Clean bathrooms.

Finally a real campground, trees, campfires, lake... The real outdoors feel yet minutes from groceries, gas stations, etc. Water was a little mucky so didn't swim, not sure if there is an actual swim area. Nice pàved trails through the trees. Bathrooms/ showers are typical campground style yet better than some we've seen. Overall very nice park, only real downfall was no WiFi, TMobile service worked good though.

Great Campground

Lewisville TX Hickory Creek Park COE on Lewisville Lake Open year round. Just over 100 paved sites most with lakeviews. Also have primitive walk in sites by lake. May 1 to Sept 30 14 day max stay other times can extend 14 more days!Be ware that gate closes from 10pm to 6am and there is no code access! Sites are w/e and all have new 50 amp. Grills and fire rings along with covered picnic tables. Modern bathhouse with large shower stalls. Nice boat ramp and boat trailer parking. There are several nature and walking trails as well as paved roads for bike riding. I have Verizon and was able to call and text but not use internet in camp. Town is short 5 minutes away. There's restaurants, shopping and theater close by.

Beautiful view of the water, spacious, close &amp; convenient to any service, delivery services available also.  Affordable, quiet &amp; relaxing.  Wonderful experience, highly recommend

This campground is one of our favorite and centrally located!

This was our first time taking our camper out, we stayed at site 3, which was nice. There are plenty of trees that in the spring and summer will provide tons of shade. There is a largely wooded area behind the campsite, which was great for the kids to explore and collect sticks for the fire! My only downside is how close we are to the airport, so it are planes overhead non-stop day and night. Overall, nice campground. We walked around and explored the lake area, might reserve a spot by the lake next time! 4/5 stars due to the airplane noise.

Hickory Creek Campsite

I LOVE everything about this location minus the 10 pm curfew lol. We love the spacious spots but the curfew makes it difficult to do what we want to do on our vacation. 

Great location 

I had a site right on the water so I could put my kayak in right there. The park is clean and quiet and convenient to shopping and whatever you need. 

My favorite COE park

**General:** 124 50 amp sites (plus 10 primitive sites) on Lewisville Lake, about 40 minutes northwest of Dallas. This is another US Army Corps of Engineers run campground. There is a gatehouse that was staffed from 10 am– 10 pm and the gate attendant was very friendly and helpful. 

  

**Site Quality:** The sites are spaced reasonably far apart, but there is not much physical separation between them. Our site (21) had a generous amount of space to one side. Each site is paved and has the following amenities: picnic table, bbq, fire pit, and lantern hook. In some sites, the picnic table is covered. 

  

**Bathhouse:** Basic bathhouse but it was clean. There were ample showers but I did not use them so I cannot comment on the quality. 

  

**Activities:** Boating and fishing (neither of which we do; we just like camping on the water!). Nature trails but not really any hiking trails. We were there during Texas’ spring break so the campground was completely full, but we enjoyed our overnight stay before heading further south.

Close to Dallas

This is a well-maintained park with friendly people and beautiful lake views. Have stayed in space 12 and space 60 - the higher numbers have newer tables and grass. Restroom facilities are clean. My one complaint is there's a playground on their map but no actual playground that we could find.

Beautiful Lake View - friendly hosts 

Absolute newbie here. Campgrounds were beautiful, clean and well spaced out. The only “negative” I found is that the sewage hook up is not at the actual site. There are dump stations in different places. It was a bit nerve wrecking to use the dump station while people waited behind me and it is my very first time doing this. Other than that, I highly recommend the camp grounds and will definitely come back!

Overall it was a great experience

stayed in #42 nice size lot looking at the lake with room for 40' RV and truck, they allowed me to park our trailer in the parking lot across the street where there is a restroom with showers if needed.

the sites have electric and water and are large with covered picnic table and a fire ring. the dogs loved the large open areas. although sewer is not on the spot the dump area is easily accessible.  would definitely stay again when back in the area. AAA+++

beautiful campground with amazing views

We hopped over for a one night trip and had a blast! Our site was right off the water with a fun view (at night) of the lake Lewisville bridge. Sites were large enough for us (tent campers) without feeling too close to our rv/camper neighbors! Our 5 &amp; 4 year old boys loved running around, throwing rocks in the lake, and the park host dropped by and gave them a frisbee to play with! We’ll be back!
