Private Campground

The Drift

Description

**Swim. Fish. Hike. Raft. **

Nestled along the ancient banks of the French Broad River in the foothills of eastern Tennessee, this primitive campsite offers a raw, unfiltered slice of Southern Appalachian countryside. Surrounded by the rivers slow-moving current and framed by dense hardwood forest climbing the steep ridges on The Bluffs you can hear the rapids of water over stone and the occasional splash of a smallmouth bass. Watch the sunrise over the mountains while sipping your morning coffee before starting the days adventures. Located only 40 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge you can explore the area during the day and relax by a campfire for the night.

**There are no facilities here: Only picnic table and fire ring. There are no restrooms; just a flat, sandy clearing large enough for a few tents, bordered by a tree canopy and the faint scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. At night though, the Milky Way spills overhead unimpeded, and the river’s steady murmur lulls you to sleep. **

Convenient, clean, and close to nature

What a fantastic way to end our day rafting Section 10 & 11 of the French Broad River.  There aren’t many places for river sportsmen to get off the river at their own campsite for the night.   Lots of wildlife too from herons, hawks and bald eagles to deer, otters and an occasional bear.   Watched the flames dance in the campfire while we drank beer and cooked up hot dogs and beans.  Downtown Newport is 10 minutes away for any needs.
