Old Fort Thompson Road Dispersed — Sharpe Recreation Area

A former Corps of Engineers campground along Old Fort Thompson Road near Fort Thompson, South Dakota, now unmaintained and functioning as open dispersed camping on the overgrown loop. The old concrete pads are still traceable beneath the vegetation, and a flat parking area farther down the road offers additional space for larger rigs. Access the site via the road by the dam — an alternate route is closed — and expect potholed pavement on the old loop itself.
