Kayaking, fishing, and swimming on a small pond give Orchard Lake Campground its central draw. A slide extends into the water, and kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats are available on-site. Anglers can work the pond from shore, and a zip line runs nearby for younger campers looking for dry-land action. The campground also has a game room and a movie room, which reviewers note comes in handy when mountain weather turns rainy.
The campground sits in the hills outside Saluda, North Carolina, accessible via winding mountain roads. A few reviewers flag the approach as worth noting: narrow, single-direction interior roads and a back gate that closes from 10pm to 8:30am mean late arrivals or early departures require planning. RVs up to 50 feet are accommodated, though at least one reviewer with a large rig found some sites tight. Sites are laid out across multiple loops, which keeps the overall feel from becoming too compressed even when individual spots sit close together. "The campground is spread out with a couple different loops," notes christy S., "so you don't feel like you're in a mega campground."
Full hookups are available, including electric, water, and sewer, along with a dump station and WiFi. Cell service gets mixed marks from reviewers, so the WiFi may be useful for those who need connectivity. Tent sites include electric and water connections. Bathrooms draw divided opinions: some reviewers describe them as clean and well-maintained, while at least one visitor had a notably different experience. The campground runs April through November, with rates ranging from $38 to $48 per night. Reservations are available and worth making during summer months when the pond activities draw families.
Orchard Lake operates as a family-oriented campground with a Christian character, including organized Saturday morning activities for children and a Sunday church service. Pets are allowed, though certain breeds are restricted by campground policy. Campers exploring campgrounds around Saluda will find other options nearby, including Dream Stream and Wilderness Cove Campground. Orchard Lake works best for families with children who will use the water and activity amenities.
