Mr. Levy's Riceland Farm, established in 1927 by Levy Rice, is a testament to resilience and heritage in South Carolina. Founded during a time when opportunities for black landowners were scarce, Levy Rice laid down roots for a legacy that would flourish for generations. In the years that followed, under Janie Rice and David Butler, the farm grew, embodying the Gullah Geechee tradition and becoming a symbol of cultural heritage and agricultural prowess. Today, the farm spans 25 acres of rich land, standing as a living testament to the Gullah Geechee resilience and ingenuity, facing modern challenges with ongoing preservation efforts to maintain its historical and cultural significance.

There is nothing quite like being right on the banks of the Black River! Truly stunning and my favorite place to be! 

Hidden Gem! 

I talked to Mr. Levy to inquire about camping on his property last Oct (2024) and was informed that the property was not open for camping because of needed repairs and improvements. No timeframe given as to when or if the site would reopen.
