Wallowa National Forest's Shady Campground sits in Lostine Canyon, a forested site managed by the US Forest Service with just two campsites. A creek runs directly past the campground, though reaching the main river requires a longer walk. No host is on site, no cell service is available, and campers should plan to pack out trash since there is no dumpster. Toilets are maintained and were noted as clean. Pets are not permitted. Nearby, Lostine River and Two Pan campgrounds give campers additional options along the same corridor. The site is open May through October, making it a reasonable base for those headed into the Wallowas on foot.
Description
Shady Campground is a small rustic campground located along the Wild and Scenic Lostine River. Nestled in a 'shady' cool fir and pine tree forest, the campground is popular during the summer for local and regional campers visiting the Lostine Canyon and Eagle Cap Wilderness.
