The Best Camping Near Rhododendron, Oregon

We had an RV on site. Used the indoor swimming pool and the restaurant for some breakfasts & lunches. Food was adequate. There is a playground onsite for those with children and plenty of bike paths and walking paths to keep you busy. Not to mention all of the sights to take in close by including Timberline Lodge, Mount  Hood, Wildwood recreation site is right next door and boasts an underwater salmon viewing area as well naturalist inspired boardwalks and walking paths. Go salmon!  

Great convenient camping

This was a good family camping spot. Pros - there is a playground, swimming pool, small store, cafe, bathrooms with showers (and warm water) and activities during the day for kids. Cons - if you're tent camping the bathrooms are quite the hike, the tent sites are crammed together, there's only one working faucet in the entire tent camping area and the facilities are starting to look worn down.

The most utterly confusing part to me is that there were two huge RV areas that were virtually empty and would be perfectly suitable for tent camping. I'm not sure why they retrofit a dozen or so of those sites for "premium" tent camping? I'd gladly pay a few extra bucks a night for a 110 outlet, more space my own personal water supply.

We were in site T4\. In my opinion it's the best site in the circle. If you can get T1, that looked like the best spot.

Good family spot

I have been there twice this summer.

Actually, I started camping there more than two decades ago, when it was still being developed.

I am partial to it for that reason.

It is more of an RV campground. But, it does have several yurts, and a tent camping area.

Not the quiet, "roughing it" style I like, but when I just want to chill, and do nothing in particular, this is a decent place to camp. It has a lodge, an exercise room, pool, hot tub, hot showers, bathrooms with indoor plumbing, and outlets for the ladies hair dryers (or charging the battery on your smart phone).

A small store on the grounds provides for the last minute treats to make s'mores, or even a chocolate ice cream sandwich from the freezer.

I actually like using the campground as a "basecamp" for my hikes around Mt Hood.

It's not as quiet as a campsite deep in the wilderness, but sometimes it's nice to get away without getting away from it all.

Oh, and sometimes I prefer indoor plumbing over vault toilets or bushes.

My Hood RV Village better if you camp RV style..

We stayed in a trailer. We had a water and power site. I would say it's hit or miss on site quality. Some seem right on a corner with no privacy. We used the showers. They were fine. We didn't use the pool or spa. It's about 1/2 hour drive to Timberline on Mt Hood a must see.

Good base for Mt Hood 

This place is not your typical "camping" experience. You are able to rent adorable cottages, cabins, yurts or RV spots. My family and I rented a cottage, only because he fit our family of 4 perfectly. This would be a perfect place to come if you like the outdoors and want a romantic getaway for the weekend. It is also perfect for family reunions or long weekend getaways with the family. It's great for everyone. The views are gorgeous. Mt. Hood on a clear, beautiful day just shines!! There are wonderful hiking trails nearby that my family and I took advantage of. My dad enjoyed playing golf at one of the golf resorts nearby, while my mom and siblings went for a hike. There truly is something for everyone- hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, golfing, rock climbing, fishing, mini golf, volleyball, and so much more! The resort itself has a fitness center, swimming pool, and there are a lot of great restaurants close by. You really can't be bored here! One downfall I would say is that it was a bit over priced, and it was busy. Luckily for us, we were exploring and adventuring all day so we really didn't notice how busy it was until dinner time. We got smart and ate early to beat the crowds.

What an experince! 

We love this place! It is privately owned and well maintained.The roads are paved. There is an indoor pool, a pavilion that has entertainment on the weekends and general store to send the kids to when they need a treat. The ground have beautiful trees to provide shade. It is in the mountains, so it can rain at any time. There are trails from the campground out into the forest that are easy to navigate. If you need anything from town, it is a short 10 minute drive.

Family Reunion. 

Close proximity to many hiking trails, and town grocery store and gas station. Full rv hookups. We chose this campground because we had been traveling up the coast all week and our kids could use a break from”roughing it” this place was full of amenities...laundry, pool, hot tub, playgrounds, store and wi-fi (which we hadn’t had all week) it was definitely a resort type environment, good for families with kids. Some sites are private(because we asked for one) but many are like a parking lot...I would let them know your preference before you book:)

Family friendly, easy mountain access

Decent RV camping. Stayed 2 nights during last weekend of summer break. Packed a little tight but most people were outgoing and friendly while we visited. Very close to summer (and I'm assuming winter) attractions with Ski Bowl nearby. A few nice restaurants within a few minutes drive. Nice indoor pool and hot tub. Good playground for kids. Very family friendly.

Beautiful area. Visiting Portland area, highly recommended. 

Easy to access, even for larger rigs. We stayed in 39 foot 5th wheel. Plenty of pull thru spots, full hookups, regularly spaced bathroom/showers. Nice store for basic needs, nice laundry room.

Beautiful campground

We had a great time at this RV resort, very clean and well organized. The RV spaces have enough room. The ladies from the front office are very nice and helpful and always willing to help.  This place also has weekend activities like movies and stuff.  We will be coming back. 

Really fun

Well maintained, had lots of activities to do. Fun for kids and adults. Clean facilities, nice pool. We had a nice week here and would return.

4th of July weekend 

Up at the base of Mt Hood, this large resort style campground (operates by Thousand Trails/Encore) offers various areas for camping.  There are full RV hookup sites, tent sites, group tent sites, E/W RV hookups and cabins/yurts throughout.  It seems most, of not all, RV sites have room for at least a small tent or more and they do allow that.  There also is a few group tent sites that I saw.  

As for amenities, the campground has a small store that sells the basics and some RV parts, a deli/restaurant, playground and pool.  

There are trails to get to the Salmon River, not difficult by any means.

Being just a dozen miles or so from Government Camp, there are so many things to do when you want to get out of the campground.  

It’s open year round, and many folks use Mt Hood Village RV Resort as a basecamp for activities for all seasons.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay, though the limited restroom and showers are oddly placed, with access only by walking the loop.  There are no trails to get to them, so if you are at the other end, it’s a small hike.  The plus is that the restrooms are clean and well stocked. 

Large TT/Encore Campground

This campground is big, with a lot of trees and a good number of sites have shade for the majority of the day (at least where we were), they have full hook ups and partial, cable with a great variety of channels, their WiFi is not good, not even by the “lounge”, tiny house and cabins available for rent (pet friendly options available) which is cool, laundry facility, cafe/bakery on site, nice store with good variety of food and drink options, DVD rental.
The bakery is independently owned and opens daily, they bake cinnamon roles daily and the cream cheese is home made...OMG, worth having one or two with coffee! 
Gas station (72) and great grocery store (thrift away) nearby )1.5 mi away). 
We had a great corner site and we were not surrounded by a lot of people, there was one family at the site behind us and luckily no one to our right. 
The fact the campground was packed for Father’s Day and lack of cleanliness at their bathrooms and laundry facility makes me wonder how serious they are taking Covid-19. We’ve been to three campgrounds so far and two of them were taking it very seriously and keeping it clean and limiting the number of people using the laundry. Some didn’t open the bathrooms and the ones who did, kept is very clean. Not so much the case here, which was disappointing as this is a “resort”. 
If you are looking to spend a few days exploring MT Hood area, this is a good location, not too far out from MT. Hood, fun scenic drive to up to the lodge. We saw people skiing there! 
If you feel like driving an hour, make your way to Hood River, which is an adorable town, with a few clothing stores, pet store, bookstore, coffee shops, brewers and an amazing river...the Columbia River Gorge. You can take windsurfing lessons (which we did and it was super fun). Hood River is the windsurfing capital of the world. You can also take kite surfing lessons or just sit and watch all of them fly around! 
Across the Columbia river it is the state of Washington, and you can cross the Hood River toll bridge and explore WA.
Riverside is a great Restaurant located at the Best Western Hood River Inn-they have a beet salad that is to die for. Calamari app is yummy as well as the mushroom fondue burger. Next day we had the beet salad again and two pasta dishes which were amazing (chicken Alfredo and Fregula &amp; Sausage), they have a pressed lemonade that’s sooo yummy! 
Hood River is worth visiting! If it is sunny, pack up some beach towels, swimming suit and head there for a day in the water. 



Huge campground, friendly staff, needed cleaning 

We walked in for a same day tiny house rental and got the last one super lucky. The tiny house is so cute and has all the amenities. Would definitely come back.

Great tiny house

This place is massive and it looks like they are still expanding. We stayed in a section that reminded me of many state parks: large trees, lots of shade, gravel parking pad. There are other areas fully exposed to sun and others even deeper in the forest. There’s and entire tiny home neighborhood in this campground and another section full of tiny home rentals. The playground and clubhouse area was very large but completely closed due to coronavirus. The restaurant was open for breakfast and lunch, serving up cinnamon rolls the size of your head! There are several trails through the forest that take you to the river, but they aren’t very well marked. Take a couple hours to drive next door to the Wildwood Recreation Area. Beautiful hiking and trails there. All in all this was a pleasant stay. The place could use a little updating here and there but otherwise it was a good experience. 

Huge campground with variety of site types 

Nice RV park, more like a state park than typical RV parks. The park itself was huge with many loops. Most sites were fairly close together, but they were well maintained. The hiking trails are quintessential PNW though - absolutely stunning!! We’ll be back for sure!

Great location 

We visited Mt. Hood Village RV Resort this past weekend for a two day snow outing adventure and it was the perfect stay for our family in our RV.  We started with night skiing at Mt. Hood Skibowl, and after finishing up about 10:30pm we headed a bit back down the mountain to Mt Hood Village.  Despite the snowpack on the mountain, Mt Hood Village is just 20 min away, but several thousand feet lower in elevation, so there was no snow to fight with when we arrived.  

  

It was late at 11pm, so what a great surprise to find a very helpful welcome with a gate attendant who had our information from our reservation printed and ready to go with a smile and good directions find our RV site.  We pulled in and plugged in within 10 minutes and got the crew ready for sleeping.  The site was level, had all the amenities for a full service hook up (although we had a full fresh water tank and relatively empty waste tanks so we didn't hook them up as I was too tired!).  

  

In the morning I walked through the Resort to see all of the many amenities.  We had stayed here once before in the summer when we visited the summer activities at Mt Hood Skibowl.  The kids rode their bikes then and we enjoyed an active RV resort with many overnight visitors and a lot of regular long stay neighbors.  Sites can be close together but the abundance of large trees and multiple sections of the park spreads out the large number of sites it offers for RV sites, and tiny home rentals.

  

Amenities are many (not all are open due to COVID) and we didn't have time to enjoy all of them, but they are here for your use.  I would call ahead to see what is open if particular amenities are important to you (fitness gym, pool, etc. to see if they are currently available or not).  There is a senior center for gathering, there is a mountain ski shuttle pick up for a ride to the slopes, also a fitness center, pool, playground, onsite convenience store, restaurant, clubhouse, etc.  

  

We particularly appreciated how close it was located Mt Hood.  After a solid night's rest we headed 30 min back up to the backside of the mountain to Bennett Pass.  We worked on a snow fort a friend had started and had a great experience finishing out our 24 hour mountain adventure.

  

Mt Hood Village resort has hundreds of RV sites, tons of amenities, and is part of the Encore RV Resort/Thousand Trails network of properties.  If you are headed to winter or summer activities at Mt Hood it is a great option for a stay that is close to the mountain, has access to all the amenities you could want, with personal service, all at a fair price.  I highly recommend this property.

Great RV property with convenient access to Mt. Hood activities

Stayed here a couple weeks before Memorial Day weekend (Thanks, Veterans!). Had the far back area to ourselves. Nearest other campers were four sites away. Lots of places to walk and ride bikes. A bit pricey, but it's up on the mountain so you are within an easy drive of hiking trails and other recreation activities.

Great place for family or couples-quiet and clean

This was our first camping trip with our new tent camper. We had partial hookup. The space was large and covered with trees. There is a trail that was fun to walk as well.

The campground is well taken care of, the staffing are friendly, awesome amenities, perfect home base for dropping off camper and taking off for hiking and mushroom hunting adventures.

Sites and surroundings are great, but restrooms &amp; laundry room were dirty when we got there  &amp; weren’t cleaned till 5 days later. Was July 4th weekend, so the park was full.

Love Mt Hood

This RV park is huge, with a lot of amenities including a pool, laundry, etc. We stopped here last minute, and they had many spots available. However, this place is packed, given its size. There aren’t any good “views” and the water SMELLS so bad (well water?), which we haven’t experienced before. Overall, not worth the price tag of $72 per night for our stay, but good if you want to use the amenities or need someplace last minute.

Nice, but not our type of RV park. 

We decided to make this RV park our maiden voyage in our new Travel Trailer. It was pretty pricey for an RV park at the time we booked (+80/night) but then again there isn't much competition that is actually up on the mountain. It's actually a pretty large park, but doesn't feel like it until you get out and explore a bit as the loops are pretty well disconnected. The sites are typically close together, but some have more separation than others. Most sites are pull through. Full hookups worked well for us. There was a group of tent campers across from us, so it seems they do allow tents in RV spots as well. The Lodge has wifi, the rest of the park does not. The Lodge area has a small store with plenty of RV parts and snacks if you happened to forget something. If you need actual supplies, head up the road a bit to the local Thriftway, a local grocery store.

  

The main attraction of this place is the nearby recreation. There is a path that leads to the [Wildwood recreation area](https://www.accesstrails.org/overview/wildwood-recreation-site/) and within the RV park itself there is access to the Salmon River for fishing/swimming. There is easy bike riding in the RV park, and right across Hwy 26 is some of the best Mountain Biking in the country at the [Sandy Ridge Trail System](https://www.mtbproject.com/trail/3482113/sandy-ridge-trail-system-full-tour). Using this RV park as a jumping off point, there are endless hiking trails and lakes to paddle and explore in the Mt Hood wilderness. You will never get bored in the Mt Hood area.

  

Some great places to eat in the area are [Koya Kitchen](https://m.facebook.com/Koya-Kitchen-1845034092437284/), that serves sushi and ramen with plenty of outdoor seating and a full bar. Also nearby and not to miss is the [Skyway Bar and Grill](https://skywaybarandgrill.com/) with amazing BBQ, full bar and live music on the weekends. Of course there's always [Timberline Lodge](https://www.timberlinelodge.com/) if you're looking for a bit fancier, you definitely can't go wrong there with the food or the views, or year round skiing/snowboarding.

  

All in all the Mt Hood RV park is in a good location, which is what you're really paying for, but not somewhere we'd stay longer term due to the cost, noise and size of the place.

Great location for activities, a bit pricey

Beautiful 

This campground is up in the cascades, so it’s cool, when the portland metro area is burning up with heat.  Lots of campsites but not really on top of each other. Close to fishing, hiking, and summer and winter activities. Including skiing in the winter. 

Nice campground  

This is a great place in the winter to park your motorhome and drive up to Mt. Hood for the day.  Super easy to make reservations, the people in the office are extremely helpful and kind and if it’s not busy you can easily extend your stay.  Their clubhouse, pool, workout and Rex room are open year round and their little store has very reasonable hours.  The maintenance staff is also really helpful ( our water pipe and sewage tank froze in the 19 degree weather!) and they stopped by to make sure we were ok and to help us out.  They will come to your site and fill portable propane tanks and you can fill your motorhome propane tank when you get there or refill as you leave.  We had a great time and will definitely return!!

Fantastic place in the winter!

We really enjoyed our stay here. A nice variety of different types of sites, we chose to be amongst the trees. Overall, great campground! We will be back! 

Great campground 

Nice area in the trees. On-line booking &amp; check in which went smooth. Only complaint is the sites aren’t maintained after the previous occupant.  We had old burnt firewood &amp; rubber gloves left/not cleaned up.

Last minute booking 

The full hook up sites are in old growth timber giving each site a feeling is seclusion.  The lodge, pool, hot tub and saunas are in good condition.  The campground provides easy access to a number of nearby activities.
There is no mail service but UPS and FedEx can deliver to your campsite.

Mt Hood Village

This was our first trip in our new RV. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our spot was a 40ft pull through with full hookups, cable, a fire pit, and a picnic table. We were parked next to the bathroom that was in the area and the facilities were very clean. The river that runs along the property was very beautiful.  The site has a large hot tub in its own separate room away from the pool which was nice because it was quiet. The indoor pool was very large and clean. I didn't get a chance to try it out because we were only there 1 night. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back.

Winter camping

Very nice, large campground. Staff was very nice and helpful. Many spaces are level dirt parking. Bathrooms were very nice and clean. The only Wi-Fi is near the checkin desk but we had good cell coverage (Verizon). About a 20 minute drive to Timberline lodge and skiing. I would stay again. 

Very nice park

First off there are some parking lot style loops at this location but there are also a ton of excellent tree'd spots as well. We have stayed twice already this summer and have one more trip booked. Our kids love cruising the loops on their bikes and stopping in at the playground. We have enjoyed quiet comfortable stays even with the park mostly full  The store is stocked well and priced fairly. The grounds are well kept and this summer the pool area is undergoing a major remodel, a bummer but not a huge loss for us.

Great Place to Start Mt. Hood Adventures 

We stayed here one night in November, and it was incredible. The campground offers a ton but comes with a price. 

Great spot! 

Not my normal camping scene, but decided to for an early summer ski session with the kids, we didn't want to completely rough it, but also didn't want to pay hotel prices. So, one of the standard cabins here was the perfect compromise. Roof over our heads, actual beds, room for three of us to be able to gear up for the day. But still had a fire pit outside, and picnic table for outdoor cooking. (Also the standard cabins don't have bathrooms, so you still need to go to the shared restrooms.)  
  
The property overall was really nice, lots of amenities. We also took a walk through the RV/Tent camp sites. Its very similar to a KOA style of resort. We enjoyed it for what it was.

The Ultimate Mt Hood Base Camp

I really wanted to give 5 stars, but they have far too many permanent residents, which makes the campground look un-kept. The grounds were ok, bathrooms were clean, price was fair, large spaces , and very good customer service.
