Campsites at Toe River sit close enough to the water that you can hear the current from your tent. The campground runs along the Toe River outside Burnsville, North Carolina, operating April through October with full hookups available for RVs and tent sites positioned directly on the riverbank. Note that the campground is currently listed as temporarily closed, likely due to damage from Hurricane Helene in late 2024.
River access is the defining feature here. Several sites sit just feet from the water, and anglers can cast for trout directly from their campsite when water levels cooperate. When the river runs higher, the on-site store rents tubes for floating. Site 56 gets mentioned repeatedly by returning visitors for its wide footprint, river frontage, and two trees spaced for a hammock. Shade is limited across much of the campground, so bringing your own canopy or shade structure is worth planning for. The campground also features a pool, though reviewers note a separate $5 per-person fee applies there.
"Coming during the fall leaf change man was it beautiful there," notes Wayne T., who camped through the last weekend of October one season. Bathrooms have been reported as clean and well-maintained. The campground draws a mix of weekend visitors and long-term seasonal campers, and hookup sites tend to have more availability than riverfront spots. Nearby alternatives worth considering include Patience Park Toe River Campground and Granny's Place RV Resort, both within a couple of miles along the same river corridor. Book early, as the campground sells out on peak weekends.
Description
At this time Toe River Campground will be closed due to the damage from the catastrophic flooding that we have received. We are working to refund everyone that had reservations with us, this may take several weeks to complete. So please be patient with us as work on this. Our main concern right now is helping our community through this time.
Thanks for understanding!
