Birdwatchers and paddlers have a specific draw here: a raised boardwalk leads to an overlook above the bog at Round Pond, and kayaks or canoes can be launched directly onto the pond from the same access point. Camping is dispersed throughout the forested state preserve, with one firm rule: sites must be at least 150 feet from the water's edge. No permits are required. Sign in at the trailhead kiosk, which also carries a trail map and information about the bog ecosystem. The Pharsalia Woods Lean-To Campsite provides a shelter-based alternative for those who prefer a designated site. Access is walk-in only, and the parking area sits just off Plymouth Reservoir Road. Bring everything in; no facilities are on site.
Description
Primitive camping is allowed. Campsites must be at least 150 feet away from the nearest road, trail, or body of water. Camping for more than three nights or in groups of ten or more requires a permit from a Forest Ranger.
