Cherry Plain State Park
Cherry Plain State Park is nestled in the woods of the Taconic Valley. The park's 175 acres are a quiet alternative to other parks in the region. The park's setting on Black River Pond features a sandy beach with adjacent picnic grounds and a boat launch. The park also has bridle paths and hiking, biking, and nature trails that serve as cross-country ski trails in winter. Anglers enjoy fishing for bass, bullheads, and pickerel here. A special feature of the park is a Charcoal Kiln Site that can be found by hiking a trail that begins at the southern corner of the main parking lot. The Capital District Wildlife Management Area surrounds the park and offers another 4,153 acres of forested land for outdoor recreation.
