Burnham Point State Park Campground

Within Burnham Point State Park along the St. Lawrence River, this NYS Office of Parks campground operates seasonally from late May through early September. The forested campground features fewer than 50 sites, with some positioned directly along the riverbank and others set back on higher ground. Campers can access the property by car or boat, though several reviewers mention the access road conditions can be challenging.

Sites include electric, water, and sewer hookups, with tent-only options available closer to the water. The St. Lawrence River provides direct swimming access and boat launching facilities. Tucker B. notes the campground "was super convenient to be able to get work done via my hotspot right from our site" with AT&T service. Reviews consistently highlight the maintained restrooms and hot showers. Wind conditions can be significant, particularly for waterfront sites, which tend to slope rather than offer level ground.

The location serves as a base for exploring the Thousand Islands region, with Cape Vincent about 10 miles away. Nearby options include Cedar Point State Park Campground and Angel Rock Waterfront Cottages & Vacation Homes. The campground sells ice and snacks on-site. Reservations are recommended for waterfront sites, especially during peak summer months.

Multiple campers commented on the stunning St. Lawrence River views, excellent facilities, and peaceful atmosphere. Some feedback indicated sloped waterfront sites may have limited flat space, but most found the clean amenities and quiet setting ideal for relaxation.

Very quiet place

Campsite is very clean and peaceful. Bugs are a minimum. Bathrooms are great- showers with nice and hot water. Down sides- lake front campsites are all on a slope- minimum flat space. Also- depending on day- EXTREMELY VERY WINDY AND COLD! But the view is beautiful.

Beautiful, Quiet, and On-the-Grid!

Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed the down time.

Paddling the St. Lawrence River was a highlight and it was also super convenient to be able to get work done via my hotspot right from our site (I have AT&T).

The facilities were also kept super clean and they sell ice, snacks, and ice cream on the property.

We did do a quick trip into Cape Vincent for supplies and a beer at Cape Vincent Brewing Company one evening, which was a treat!

Overall, I was impressed by how quiet it was and would definitely return!

Good overnight stop; bring a boat if you stay longer

This is a good stopping point, but there isn't much to do unless you bring a boat. Or you could use it as a base for exploring other areas in the Thousand Islands. It's only about 10 miles from Clayton.

We stayed here on a bicycle trip from Rochester to the Thousand Islands at the end of a 63 mile day. Don't let anyone tell you it's not a hilly trip coming up along Lake Ontario to the Thousand Islands! There will be hills! The good news is there are NY state parks along the way.

Burnham Point is a small (less than 50 sites) campground on the St. Lawrence River. It was a good stopping point after seeing the lighthouse in Cape Vincent on our way. There are sites by the river that are tent only but we pitched our tent up above. The tent sites were rather difficult to get to with our bikes. There wasn't much shade where we settled, but the sun was not intense as we arrived in the early evening and left the next morning. Unfortunately, I have no site photos and only have a photo of the sunset...but it's a beautiful view.

Restrooms/showers were clean, and there was electricity at the site. Unfortunately, the bugs were bad but that's just a summertime hazard in the Northeast.
