Equestrian camping options near Bohemia, New York are limited based on available facilities. While several campgrounds in the area accommodate pets, none specifically advertise horse-specific amenities such as corrals, stables, or dedicated equestrian campsites. Sears Bellows County Park in Riverhead permits pets and offers water hookups that could potentially serve horses, but lacks dedicated equestrian facilities. The campground features wooded sites with access to hiking and biking trails that might be suitable for day rides, though trail restrictions may apply.

Shinnecock East County Park in Southampton provides beach camping opportunities with pet-friendly policies, but requires 4x4 vehicles for access and primarily serves RV campers. The park does not maintain dedicated horse facilities or equestrian trails. Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, while accessible to New York City attractions, operates essentially as a parking lot with hookups and has limited space that would be impractical for horse trailers or equestrian needs. Horse owners seeking dedicated equestrian camping facilities may need to explore options further from the immediate Bohemia area, as local campgrounds focus primarily on standard recreational camping without specialized horse accommodations.

      Liberty Harbor RV Park

Functional with excellent access to the City

Very plain & functional, no frills but right on the harbor & on the very edge of Jersey City, close to a ferry & the train that takes u across to New York City. Shopping & restraunts are right next door. We brought scooters & had a great stay! Plus you can see the Statue of Liberty from there!

      New York City View

There is only a small place for tents. Mostly people go there with campers. Not your typical campground. Very easy to hop on transit to get to New York City. People were friendly.

      Relaxing-Good for your whole family!

Sears Bellows in New York is a lot of fun. It really does offer a lot of outdoor activities for you and your family. I have stayed at this campsite 1 time, and stayed 2 nights. This campground does offer tent sites as well as RV/trailer sites. When I went with my friends in college, we just stayed in the tent sites and really enjoyed it. The campground is very well kept and clean which I really liked. They do have quite a bit of garbage's to dump your trash in. One thing I really liked about this campground is that there was a river/pond close by (Bellows Pond). The first night I stayed here my friends and I rented some rowboats and went on the water. It was a lot of fun, and the price of the rowboat was pretty cheap. The next morning we got up and did some hiking. The trails were beautiful, and the flowers were in bloom. There were people who were also biking on these trails, which looked like so much fun! We also saw some people fishing in the pond- and it seemed like most people were catching. The people who stayed in the campsite next to us were cooking up some type of fish for their dinner that they caught that day. One thing to note is that there are not any electrical hook-ups, so if that is something you need you might now want to come stay here. I would love to come back here someday, but stay maybe a day or two longer to do more things- I would also bring my bike and fishing pole to do more outdoor activities. I would also advise to rent the rowboats because that was a lot of fun!

      Liberty Harbor RV Park

      Location, Location, location

This is all about location. The closest RV park to NYC. It's basically a parking lot with a dump station. Not much else. Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room. If it's packed, your neighbor with be within inches of your rig. Pluses, minutes walk to the Statue of Liberty, liberty Science center. Two blocks away from NJ Path train into Manhattan or take the ferry to Wall Street!

      Location location location

Basicly a parking lot, but the location can't be beat. 2 ferries that run to Manhattan. Path train is a 12 minute walk away that will take you yyo manhatten. Jersey city has a lot of restaurants and bars walking distance. Wonderful state park, liberty park, a bike ride ride away. Our experience was very good.

They also have a clean laundry room on site.

      Liberty Harbor RV Park

      Close to NYC!

This RV park is literally just a parking lot and quite expensive for what it is.

The location is great, but the surrounding streets may be hard to maneuver with an RV if you’re a newbie. You can see the Statue of Liberty from the park, and there were several cafes and restaurants within walking distance.

If you’re looking for actual amenities, this probably isn’t the park for you. But if you just need a base camp for doing tourist activities in NYC then this place will do.

There is 24 hour security which is nice as well. We felt safe while we were there, but it was also fairly empty too.

      Liberty Harbor RV Park

      Glorified Parking Lot

So... the “campground” is nothing special. Literally a parking lot with water & electric hookups. Larger rigs will barely have a yard. And don’t bet on a private picnic table. On a slow checkout day, you might get lucky enough to not wait in line for the dump station.

We’ve paid much less for “more”... the $120 price per night was ridiculous. But being that they have no competitors in the area (and they know it), RVers wanting a quick escape to see NYC can get it here. The ONLY thing we really liked about it was it’s convenient location to the city with easy access to the ferry boats.

The area itself was under a ton of construction when we drove in, which meant for difficult to navigate roads and we barely squeezed by larger trucks who were also in the roadways. But we did manage to walk our way to the marina restaurant “Surf City”, which was a unique and fun spot for end of day dinner & drinks.

We would only consider staying here again during the “off-season” months when the campground isn’t busy. The woman who checked us in was very pleasant and helpful when helping us figure out how to get around without driving.

      Liberty Harbor RV Park

      Worth it

This is a pricey park, but options are limited. As in almost non existent. This is a prime location for visiting the city or heading down the shore. The light rail is a block away, and the path train is about 8.

Staff is average, as this is not meant to be high end. They are nice but a bit rough. We had some issues with our converter and they wanted to extort a 20% commission to allow our repair man in. A bit of logical conversation put that idea to sleep. Sites kind of level and very close. Power and water, and convenient dump station if staying and needing to dump. The bath house was above average and heated. The laundry was helpful and was acceptable. Having a view of Lady Liberty out your window is priceless.

Getting in and out of the city is an adventure. Stay right off the highway to avoid the $30 tunnel toll. Follow RV life pro and not Waze.

    Guide to Bohemia

Camping options near Bohemia, New York provide access to both wooded settings and beachfront locations within Suffolk County. The area sits at sea level along Long Island's south shore where the terrain is generally flat with sandy soil conditions. Summer temperatures average 75-85°F with high humidity, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

    What to do

Kayaking at Bellows Pond: Visitors to Sears Bellows County Park can rent rowboats for exploring the freshwater pond. "The first night I stayed here my friends and I rented some rowboats and went on the water. It was a lot of fun, and the price of the rowboat was pretty cheap," notes camper Nadia V.

Fishing opportunities: Local waterways offer productive fishing spots for various species. At Shinnecock East County Park, "The ocean is beautiful and we catch stripe bass. The bay is peaceful and we go crabbing," according to Anthony M., making this a viable alternative for equestrians looking for activities beyond riding.

Urban exploration: Though equestrian facilities are limited near Bohemia, camping at Liberty Harbor RV Park provides unique access to city attractions. "There is a ferry 100-yards away that takes you to Wall Street M-F. There is a great market about 1/4 of a mile away," reports Shawn B., offering alternative activities when horse camping isn't available.

    What campers like

Wooded privacy: Sears Bellows offers a more secluded camping experience with natural surroundings. "Tucked away in the woods is a beautiful well kept & maintained campground with spacious sites, a lake with kayaking access, and trails for bike riding and hiking," writes Lexis N.

Beach access: While horse campgrounds near Bohemia, New York are limited, beachfront camping provides a distinctive alternative. "Camping directly on the beach at one of the nicest beaches in the world. You cannot find another place like this!!" emphasizes Kayla G. about Shinnecock East County Park.

Playground facilities: Families appreciate the recreational amenities at nearby campgrounds. "The playground is really nice and big has a lot of slides. The bathrooms are in one area and the showers are in another area," notes Gino D. about Sears Bellows County Park, highlighting features that supplement the lack of dedicated equestrian facilities in the region.

    What you should know

Vehicle requirements: For beach camping access, four-wheel drive is essential. "4x4 a must, air down a must. Beautiful on the bay or ocean side. They also have a hill top section," advises Lisa M. about Shinnecock East County Park.

Limited hookups: Equestrians seeking campgrounds near Bohemia should note electricity limitations. "The only down fall no electricity," mentions Vivian T. about Sears Bellows, though water hookups are available that could potentially serve horses.

Urban camping reality: Liberty Harbor RV Park offers proximity to attractions but limited amenities. "It's basically a parking lot with a dump station. Not much else. Pick one of the larger end row sites to get a little extra elbow room," explains Keith and Tia S., a consideration for those with horse trailers seeking alternatives.

    Tips for camping with families

Bring bicycles: The trail systems provide recreational opportunities for children. "The campground is very well kept and clean which I really liked. The first night I stayed here my friends and I rented some rowboats and went on the water," shares Nadia V. about her experience at Sears Bellows.

Consider noise levels: Urban-adjacent camping presents different sound conditions than traditional horse campgrounds. "It was a little loud with city noises, but exactly what we expected being so close," notes Kevin A. about Liberty Harbor RV Park.

Pack for varied activities: Equestrian alternatives near Bohemia should include multiple recreation options. "I would also bring my bike and fishing pole to do more outdoor activities. I would also advise to rent the rowboats because that was a lot of fun!" recommends Nadia V.

    Tips from RVers

Expect compact spacing: RV sites in the region tend to be close together. "Sites very close to one another. Close to ferry for downtown and Statue of Liberty. People are very nice and accommodating," reports Missy S. about Liberty Harbor.

Dump station logistics: Plan for potential wait times at busier campgrounds. "There is a dump station, but not the easiest to use," warns Shawn B., information particularly relevant for those traveling with horse trailers who may have additional waste management needs.

Location trade-offs: While dedicated horse campgrounds near Bohemia, New York are scarce, the strategic location of some RV parks provides unique benefits. "This is all about location. The closest RV park to NYC. It's basically a parking lot with a dump station," states Keith and Tia S., highlighting how location advantages may compensate for limited equestrian amenities.
