The Best Camping Near Wilmington, New York

Stayed here on a busy Memorial Day weekend. The Cabin was fantastic and so much was provided! Our favorite being the Keurig with Coffee pods and the option to purchase more from the amazing onsite Store! (That also offered and excellent menu of food throughout the day) The Lake Placid area is beautiful and there's so much to do! Hiking in the High Peaks is great and for those who aren't able to hike, The Whiteface Highway is minutes down the road and will take you to the top of the mountain, offering excellent views of the Adirondack Mountains! There's also hiking by the Ausable River on the Campgrounds with a beautiful waterfall.

Lake Placid

Love to ski, snowboard, And snowshoe in the winter, but in the summer we hike, bike, swim and many other activities. Had a beautiful time looking at the views of ADK's from town and hiked around. 

Love it here

Staying here was sort of a last minute decision, but I was very pleased with my stay. Some friends and I from college picked this place the morning of, and ended up getting to the campground around 6pm. The place wasn't too busy, and we were able to get a great spot. One thing I loved was how great the roads were leading up to the campground, and around the campground. I have a small car and always worry that the roads will be bumpy and have tons of potholes. This road was well maintained. I also appreciated how easy it was getting to our campsite. Some campgrounds it is a maze to try and get to your spot, but everything is well marked. The campground was clean, which we also appreciated. There are dumpsters and garbage cans all around the campground, so it makes it easy to dump your trash. There are also really good hiking trails nearby, which we did the next morning. There also is a cute little store nearby that had some good snacks. We forgot roasting sticks for our smores, and this store saved the day. There are also showers and bathrooms within the campground, which I thought were clean and well managed. The scenery was gorgeous, trees surrounded us- which is nice because it does give you some privacy. I also saw somewhere that they offer Wifi, however we didn't use it. Might be something to look into if that is something you need. The lake is gorgeous. My friends and I enjoyed some kayaking and swimming! Overall, staying here was awesome. If you are looking for a place to go that is beautiful and CLEAN, I would suggest coming here. 

Beautiful Campground!!

Great place to start an adventure.  Do be aware that you need a bear container if you are backpacking overnight here and it is super important especially for longer trips.  A bear bag won't do you much good.  Not speaking from experience, but I have heard some stories.  this area is beautiful and there are so many great hikes, mountains, and places to experience the outdoors!

Hiking trails!

First time visiting was this past memorial day weekend. mainly to see how my significant other takes to camping along with my two dogs, who i take where ever whenever i can. Main focus of the trip, to fish the ausable. The access from camp is on point.

Lean-tos are life. Hammocks or sleeping on the floor, they're very well protected from the wind. If the weather were more cooperative, we would have setup a tent and utilized the lean-to as "storage" but it all worked out.

I love the new canvas "tents" I'll have to stay in one, one weekend to come.

We all enjoyed our stay and intend to return again!

Beautiful campground in the Adirondacks! Lots of little shops in the area to visit. The scenery is so lovely especially the sunrises and sunsets! Make your next camping adventure at this campground. You won't be disappointed!

Very nice getaway in the Adirondacks

This is the best koa we have been to. Very large campground but quiet for the size. Lots to do, hiking trails within walking distance. Just a short drive to white face mountain and the village of lake placid. The only down fall is some of the site could be a little tricky to back into. We loved it here.

Loved it here

We found this sweet spot perfect for our weekend winter stays to attend our daughter’s collegiate alpine ski races at the hill where the Olympics once were. Clean, cozy and warm can describe our cabin that was on the beautiful river and wooded enough for privacy but close to the mountain and anemities in Lake Placid. Our dog Crawford loved exploring as did we. This is a place where we are planning on some summer and fall weekends to experience the Adirondack’s and have a place to land each day. Highly recommend.

the welcome center and store are so cute, sites are well maintained amid everyone is super friendly.  there is a secret we discovered the last day.  walk to the back of the campground to the Ausable river,  go down the path about 500 ft. there is an awesome swimming hole.

The North Pole Resort is a top tiered campground that knows exactly how a campground should be operated, from customer service to site arrangement and up keep! We had the privilege of staying in the 100 Acres section of the campground for a few nights in July and loved everything about our stay. The campground consists of two sections; the Resort section and the 100 Acre woods section (just 50 yards down the road). The resort section is located near the office and is a nice, more open, but spacious RV camping area. The 100-acre section is a wooded campground beautifully arranged and maintained.

We stayed in the 100 Acres area and were very impressed with the layout of the sites, which were staggered/angled to put the most space between each site. We felt very secluded even though there were other sites around us. Our site was level, spotlessly clean and manicured, and had good water pressure and hookups. The combination restrooms/bathrooms were clean and conveyed a sense of regular maintenance being provided to them.

Customer service is top notch and the staff prides themselves on welcoming guests as family. We overheard a current employee talking to a new employee stating that even if the campsite wasn’t used prior to a new guest arriving, they always do a thorough check of the site to ensure everything is perfect! This impressed us and aligned with the overall sense of pride shown at NP campground.  The camp store is probably one of the best stocked stores we have visited. Additionally, they had growler fills from 3 craft beers of tap right in the camp store!!

We loved our stay at North Pole Resorts, which raised the bar pretty high for other campgrounds to live up to!

Amazing Sites and Customer Service 

I have done tent, cabin and t.v. camping here. a lot of family activity in my favorite place. the outdoor choices are plenty, but the campground is slipping trying to be too much and seems to let the infrastructure slip. it is owned by corporate KOA and it shows that the making money is more important than making it a home away from home that I use to love.. still will come back

Great place. Divided into two places by the road. One side is tenty, more busy. Other side is spread out, more tucked into the woods. Nice hiking trails that connect to Whiteface Mountain trail. Theres a pool and lake. Very nice. General store that has everything you could need...groceries, camp supplues, rv supplies, toys, pharmacy, beer and wine. Laundry and recycling services. For RV, water and electric hookups. I think avail for tents too. Lots of activities around. Tons of hiking, lakes, biking, Olympic ski jump hill, bobsled rides, kayakjng, shopping in Lake Placid and nuce restaurants a short drive away.

North Pole NY Campground

North Pole has many pros and is very convenient to the heart of the Adirondack high peaks, and a stones throw from the entrance to the Whiteface Memorial Highway. In recent years they’ve added wine and beer shops to their list of amenities. They have a nice store full of necessities and souvenirs, good laundry facilities, a game room, walking trails, ausable river access and more!

While many of of our experiences with North Pole have been great, we have found that the ownership is sometimes rude, and we have heard them speaking disrespectfully to their employees and work campers.

Fun camping 

We reserved a full hook up 50a pull through for 3 nights as we toured the northeast. Check in was a little tricky, as we missed the “REGISTRATION” sign at the Lodge and had to drive around again. We were directed to our site across the street in the 100 Acre Wood and set up rather easily. Water pressure was good, road noise was minimal, sites are spaced apart well, enough mature tree growth for shade and hammock! Used the pool at the resort once (a little chilly), and purchased some beer in the camp store. Service was always polite and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!!!

100 Acre: Quiet & Peaceful

This campground is lovely! The tent sites are spacious and feel somewhat private considering how large the campground is. The bathrooms are well maintained and kept clean. The showers don’t run out of hot water, which is an issue common to many other campgrounds I’ve stayed at. The staff are responsive and accommodating. There is a small restaurant on-site in the lodge and while their menu is simple they take care to accommodate guests. I have a severe food allergy and they made sure my food was made safely. The only downsides I’d give are the price and the size of the campground - just because it’s so large it does feel a little less private than staying at one of the smaller family owned places around. It’s still wonderful though and I would book again without hesitation.

Wonderful Experience

We were trying to get out of state for a week or so but with so many restrictions in so many states we decided to stay within our own. We have never stayed for any time in the high peaks area of the Adirondaks. This campground has 2 parts to it , the resort side and the 100 acre side. I wanted to stay by the Ausable River and that on the resort side. Check-in was smooth and there campground store has everything you could need for either dry or rv camping . And all the chachskis to boot. This area still is in phase 2 so the pool, and playground and anywhere else people can congregate were off limits. The resort side had views of the mountains looking in 1 direction and the river in the other , the sites were well maintained and the staff were helpful. The only downside thing I can say is there were no bathrooms with showers open. I was told it was because of covid they weren't allowed to be open , However there is no restrictions on bathrooms. They could have only had 1 opened and closed the others they had. I am camping with 5 people in my party that toilet could have come in handy in the morning. Like I said this was my only gripe, and we are in strange times. I would camp here again.

We had a great holiday weekend in this campground of Adirondack. It’s nice to close to the river, also you can rent boats from the registration. There are lots of facilities you can use, also it’s close to few hiking trails. Will definitely come back again. 

Beautiful waterfront spot and nice amenities 

Stayed for two nights, great campsite, awesome sites. We got, unexpectedly, a nice pull through, full hookups all close together so easy setup. Our site wasn't level but only required a small adjustment. Good cell coverage and excellent Wi-Fi. There were plenty of open spots while we were there.  Definitely reccomended.

Nice location, well kept

We stayed site 98E in the Hundred Acre Woods and were there for 2 weeks. The outer sites are wooded, but spacing varies. Unfortunately, there were no trees between 98E and 98D. We had the place pretty much to ourselves during the week, but the weekends got quite busy. AT&amp;T had very poor data connection, &lt;0.5 MB/s, as did T-Mobile. Their WiFi was very inconsistent, where I had to disconnect and reconnect multiple times per day to get measurable data rates. They do have a very nice network of trails, both within the campground property and in the surrounding forest, all of which were leashed dog friendly.  There are also lots of hiking trails along the river and around Lake Placid. Several were leashed dog friendly.

A bit pricey, but a very nice park

I went to this camp in October and it was amazing. Love the facilities, actually felt like I could shower here! Lol. The ground were flat too which was a plus. Coming back at the end of May and I can’t wait for the warmer weather :)

My fav camp ground in ADK!!

We just spent a full week at the North Pole Resorts the last week of May and through the Memorial Day Weekend. We are full-time travelers with a 40' Class A motorhome, flat tow a Jeep, have 2 kids (ages 8 &amp; 13), and 2 English Bulldogs. We loved pulling in the week before the holiday weekend because there was hardly anyone else at the campground or in the area just yet. It does get packed over the holiday weekend, but was still very enjoyable and quiet at night. We were there right at the start of the season for them. \*\*\*Fair warning - Be sure to turn in by the North Pole Lodge Store and Mini Golf to register. We missed it and went past.\*\*\* We stayed in premium site 11 in the resort section and loved it. There was plenty of grassy room for the dogs to go out and we had a little cover over our picnic table. The kids enjoyed the arcade and playground being right there. We loved the store as it is one of the best we've seen yet &amp; very well stocked. The location to area attractions was ideal as well. Lake Placid is maybe 20 minutes down the road and you can get groceries and have good restaurant choices too. Highly suggest the 45 minute drive to Ausable Chasm as well as the very short drive to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge. Another favorite activity was pulling off the road to explore the hiking &amp; fishing. Quarry Pool Pond was our fave! Would absolutely be back!

Excellent Customer Service/Great Location/Loved It!

Normal KOA with the same activities but the location is beautiful. Whiteface Mountain isn’t too far and you can drive to the summit and hike to the top. The town of Lake Placid is also very lively and they have lots of nice shops and restaurants. Amazing location with lots of wildlife and the cabin at the campground was very homey.

KOA New York Mountains

This was our first KOA experience and was a good one! Overall, the park was clean, staff awesome, and enough for kids to do. The pool is smaller and if it were swimming weather, I bet it would have been quite crowded. There is one playground and an arcade. The arcade or game room was not in the best shape; definitely showed wear from the years. The sites are relatively bigger but all dirt or mostly dirt at least in the majority of the park. But to stay and enjoy the high peaks region, it was great! 

First KOA Stay

This is a large campground, but the sites are really large and really spread out. We loved it.

There are some amazing hiking trails right around the corner. And Lake Placid is a great place to visit- just down the road. We'll be back!

Nicest KOA I've been to!

We’ve stayed here once before and returned because of the beautiful location. The bathhouses are clean, private and conveniently located. We biked to local restaurants and the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge. 

Nice campground 

There are two distinct sections of this campground– the “Resort” section and the “100-Acre Woods” section. We stayed in site #73 of the 100-Acre section and would highly recommend staying in this area as opposed to the other. This section has tall shad trees and much more space between sites than the resort area. In the resort are most of the amenities like the store, playground, volleyball, swimming pool, horseshoes, etc. Each section has their own bathhouses, laundry, and game rooms. 

  

We stayed in a full hook-up site that was plenty long enough for our 45’ RV and tow car. The water spigot at our site broke when I was hooking up the water which was then gushing everywhere. Staff were really prompt at coming out and shutting off the water and getting it fixed. Other than that, we didn’t have any trouble with the hook-ups. There is cable and we received 32 channels; albeit, they were not HG so the picture quality was not great. Roads in the park are gravel and were very dusty. There is a liquor store on property and the general store sells lots of different kinds of beer and has a few on tap. 

  

One bad thing about this park is that you have to pay high fees for visitors. Day passes for adults are $12 and $6/kid. Overnight fees are crazy high at $15/adult, $8/kid and $7/car. We were camped with friends and glad they had a campsite and didn’t have to pay $24 for the two of them to come to dinner. Another ding for us was that there were lots of tree limbs that needed to be trimmed. Maneuvering through the park was pretty tight for us and we had to take it really slow. We stayed over Memorial Day weekend and were surprised that the campground was not full. One thing we noticed was that all the campers were clustered together while they could have been spaced out so there was an empty site between us and our neighbors. 

  

Behind the 100-Acre section are trails that lead to Whiteface Mountain so you don’t have to get in the car to start a hike. My dog loved running through the woods and there were a couple of small streams where she could get a drink of water. You are about 12 miles north of Lake Placid so we didn’t go there as much as we thought we would. One great find is the Adirondack Chocolate store about one mile up the road from the campground. There is also an A&amp;W, dairy bar, and a restaurant.

Reliable KOA

We camp at a lot of campgrounds. This one is fairly mediocre. It's not terrible. But it's expensive, the facilities aren't very nice and need updating, it has dusty dirt roads (no gravel), and the sites are close together and offer no privacy. A positive is that all the sites are well shaded. However, what they've done is clear all the undergrowth while leaving some of the tree canopy, which offers zero privacy while leaving a lot of tree trunks to navigate around and roots to deal with. In the beautiful Adirondacks, frankly it's sad to see such a stripped and ugly forest. The wifi really doesn't work - we tried it at various locations in the campground, and there was never more than the bare minimum of signal (just enough to check your email). This was very frustrating because we chose this campground over the much more scenic (and cheaper) state park campground because of the wifi (we work while camping and need reliable internet). The location is good if you're visiting the high peak region, and there aren't really a lot of options in this area - it's just a shame you get no sense of the beautiful area you're in, by staying here. It's like a noisy parking lot with tree trucks.

Wonderful stay!


Spent 3 days, 2 nights here from a Wednesday-Friday.  Very large and busy campground, close to Lake Placid and other cool activities to take in. 
Pros- hot showers, convenient laundromat, you are guided to your site by staff on golf carts.
Cons- tent sites aren’t given much privacy, on the days we stayed we were put very close to the main building when we requested a spot near the back away from the busy area, kids allowed to run and yelling and screaming WELL after quiet hours.

Great Campground, Full Amenities

My family of 4 camped here for a week (10-3-21 through 10-11-21) in the 100 acre side, and it was WONDERFUL! The sites are so roomy with gorgeous trees offering lots of shade and fall foliage. Sites are not level but are clear of debris and obstacles which made it easy for us to have room to get it leveled. The route suggested on their website was an “RV friendly” route so that the drive was stress free. Facilities were all clean and up to date, and the staff were super friendly and eager to help. There is plenty to do at the campground, but it is conveniently located to lots of activities. Stores and restaurants are also nearby, and a short 20 minute drive to Lake Placid offers a bigger selection of both if you desire. I highly recommend this campground! 

Amazing sites, great location

This is a Class A 5⭐️KOA Campsite!  We arrived late and Jox &amp; his sweet wife helped us manuever our RV into our pull through site B05.  We were super close to the office, store, snacks, laundry &amp; activities.  Our site was a “ dirt” site that had a picnic table and fire pit with full hook ups.  This campsite has concierge service that will help you out with any of your wants/needs.  Great site in nature’s finest.

This place was the perfect rest spot after summiting Whiteface. The sites were larger than expected, good wi-fi, clean bathhouses, and tons of things to do around the campground. 100% will be coming back! 

Absolutely perfect

Our family has been camping here every summer for the past 40 years. We couldn’t believe it today when we heard from the front desk at check-out that they are closing this location for good at the end of the season (mid-October). No explanation was offered other than KOA purchased another campground less than a mile down the road (KOA Wilmington/North Pole) and that it would be the only option after this year. We went over to check out the “new” property and it is nothing at all like the KOA Whiteface. It’s not nearly as scenic, the pool is gross, the cabins look ancient, not much privacy at all. It makes no sense. We just don’t understand why KOA would shutter one of its most beautiful properties in favor of the rundown mess down the street. What gives KOA?!

Property Closing for good 😞😭

We visited this campground twice this summer after the switchover to KOA. They had lots of activities to take back to the campsite for rainy days. They do not have a dog park and this caused our pup to get a bit hyper. 

Great Area 

This is also listed as the North Pole Wilmington KOA. Medium size KOA, quiet, sires were a little bigger than most KOAs. Close to hiking trails, Whiteface Mt Parkway &amp; Lake Placid. Nice, helpful staff. It is NOT wheelchair accessible. There are steep steps to the office, no grab bars in the bathrooms. 

Close to activities

To start off, we are avid KOA campers. So when we looked at this campground, we expected the typical layout which had a swimming pool and other stuff for the kids, however, this campground lacked all of the above. When we arrived here, check-in was easy we did drive along ways to get to our campsite which was nice to be wooded, but I did miss the typical activities and KOA usually has which when I booked the site, I usually expect them since the prices usually, fairly high compared to state parks. Our main reason for seeing KA versus state parks for these extra activities. With that said the bathrooms were clean, which we barely use since we have a full hook up camper. The dog park was very small and it looked like they did the very minimum to check the block. If you’re looking for a place to run your little guy around, he might be disappointed at this place. However, there are plenty hikes nearby to wear them out if you desire. As far as location, there is a lot of stuff to do in the area as we went and hike, the mountain, which was amazing.

This is a good place to sleep, but not much more to it

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here 5 years ago due to the hiking along the river that was available. Sometime between then and now, the KOA moved down the road a couple miles, so when we arrived, we were really disappointed--now we just paid for overpriced "camping". Despite that, the staff was very friendly and the showers were warm.

Lake Placid/Whiteface Mtn KOA

The KOA was recently moved from a different location, so some pictures see on a Google search are no longer the location.  This newly acquired property has 2 sides, the mountain side and river side you can choose when booking they are about 1/4 mile away from one another. This campground is very maintained.  The campground on the mountain side has a playground, huge store, gem mining, arcade (which needs some love), hiking trails and a common area with some games.  They have cabins, tent site areas, and huge wooded camper sites. The mountain side in general is my ideal campground full of trees and nature. The bathrooms were always clean and shower areas had great water pressure. The river side is new and on the side of the river but has you baking in the sun 🌞  there is no trees at all for shade.  And there is no separation between you and the next person.  There is only camper sites on that side.  On the river they have a small place to put in kayaks and wade in water.  They have a jumping pad on that side also.  Both sides have the tractor driving around, pulling the kids around.  The area is awesome with beach access along the river with a huge playground.  Your at the bottom of whiteface mountain which is full of hikes and watering holes to swim in, lake placid downtown area is 20 mins away.  Its a beautiful area.   The girl working in the store Kyla rocked and her gf Jess who drove around on the golfcart and helping out everywhere were so fun.  They lived on site and were such great people who made the trip more fun!!
