Boat-in camping enthusiasts will find nine waterfront sites accessible only by paddling across Crane Pond, plus one walk-in site near the parking area. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation manages this free dispersed camping area within the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness, where campfires and pets are permitted. Crane Pond Road requires 4WD vehicles due to muddy conditions and protruding rocks that can damage low-clearance cars.
The waterfront site by the parking lot features a stone fireplace and direct access to a 12-foot cliff that serves as both a fishing platform and swimming spot. An outhouse sits near the small parking area that accommodates about six vehicles. Loons call across the water at night and remain visible during daylight hours. For developed facilities, Paradox Lake Campground provides full amenities just over two miles north.
