Crane Pond Dispersed Site

Crane Pond is accessible via Crane Pond Road in the Adirondacks. The road from the lower parking lot to the pond is not maintained and often becomes very muddy, especially after rainfall. A 4WD vehicle with higher clearance is strongly recommended as the terrain is challenging with rocks and obstacles that could damage standard passenger vehicles. If your vehicle isn't suitable for rough terrain, consider parking at the lower lot and hiking in to avoid potential vehicle damage. Always check current road conditions before attempting to drive to the camping area, particularly during or after wet weather.

Crane Pond follows standard Adirondack Park backcountry camping regulations. These typically include: camping at designated sites only, maximum stay of 3 nights, no camping within 150 feet of water unless at a designated site, and practicing Leave No Trace principles. Campfires are permitted but must be kept small and manageable using only dead and down wood. Group size is limited to 9 people per site. Bear-resistant food storage is recommended. Crane Pond offers numerous outdoor recreation opportunities in the Adirondacks. Fishing is popular, with the pond supporting various fish species. Hiking trails connect to the larger Adirondack trail network, including routes to Crane Mountain for spectacular views. Photography enthusiasts will find stunning landscape opportunities, particularly during fall foliage season. Winter visitors can enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when conditions permit.
