Hiking the canyon rim is the main draw at Water Canyon, a free dispersed campground outside Los Alamos, New Mexico. Four-wheel drive is recommended to reach the site, and trailers won't make it in. The area provides enough space for a truck and multiple tents, along with a fire pit. Pets are welcome. Campers wanting developed facilities can look at Ponderosa Group Campground — Bandelier National Monument nearby, or browse campgrounds around Los Alamos for additional options.
