Best Cabin Camping near Mountainair, NM

This is our second year staying here and it is still amazing. They have a hot tub, dog wash, games, swimming pool, and playground! The sites are a little small if you are in an RV, but all in all a great camping ground.

We only got to stay one night at this Campground but it was awesome. The staff were friendly and helpful and the store was well stocked. They have nice laundry facilities and lots of spots for the doggies to play. They had a playground hot tub and a bounce pad for the kids. It was safe and quiet we will definitely stay again.

We had a good time at this KOA. Enjoyed the pool (hot tub wasn’t working), bounce pad, mini golf, horseshoes. The store was useful too. Staff was friendly. Past reviews mentioned that this KOA was in a terrible neighborhood, but it didn’t seem so bad to us and we had no incidents. CG is gated and staffed 24/7. Showers and bathrooms were nice and clean (although some had a few puddles in them from campers who showered and didn’t fix the shower curtain correctly. Laundry was helpful (quarters needed). I’d stay again.

We stayed here only overnight as part of our cross-country trip. Overall, nice for a quick stay but would not for an extended visit.

Pros: Everyone there was friendly and accomodating. They have personel maintaining the gate 24/7. Restrooms & showers were clean. They offer RV sites, cabin rentals (which we were told they were all booked but saw no one there- possibly closed due to pandemic though), and tent sites. We tent camp. The site had a fire ring, picnic table, a shaded area, and is covered in pea gravel. The shaded area is not waterproof or "fully" covered. But seems it would help with the heat to provide some shaded comfort. It rained the night we were there, and I was unable to get all of our tent spikes into the ground for our rainfall (think there may have been concrete a few inches below). If you are staying for an extended time, I recommend bringing a tarp that you can tie to the shaded area to help with heat / rain. Each tent site is separated by a privacy wall (see pic). The best part was the sunrise! Absolutely stunning as you are literally at the base of the mountains. You just have to ignore the giant Geico billboard on highway in your view.

Cons: EVERY review will tell you about the noise from highway, and it is no joke!! We were so tired we did not care. But it is BAD! If you are looking for peace and quiet - THIS IS NOT THE PLACE! You can see the highway wall in my pics. It appeared to be in what seemed as "not the best part of town". It is fully gated 24/7 which I appreciate, but makes you wonder where you are staying. However, we did not have any issues, and the few people we saw were all very polite. We arrived later in the evening and ran out to get a quick bite, but everything closes at 9p so be mindful.

Pandemic note: We stayed here 6/1/20-6/2/20. Everyone was wearing masks, VERY mindful of social distancing, and you could not even go in to the office - they come out to you.

I would recommend this only as a quick stop-over / last option campground.

Spots are a little tight. All the KOA amenities. Pool,playground, store and cabins.

There's nothing to dislike here. But if you find something, let them know, and they'll fix it. ☺ I'm in the camping area 🏕. There are many people who frequent this area. Returning over and over again. Plenty of children, dogs, and the usual traveler. I've seen business men with laptops, who are sick of hotels, and city folk with pop up cabins. Everyone is always happy here.

New Mexico is a land of wonders and beauty in every turn. From its famous green or red chili and the smell of roasted chiles in the streets to the beautiful sandia mountains that shimmer at sunset to the many parks and recreation areas to explore. New Mexico truly is like no other state and must be on your to bucket list!

Enjoyed the site! They had RV, cabins and tent camp sites. My friend and I are tent campers and there was more than enough space for the vehicle and both our tents. They have showers (limited to 5 mins but better than nothing!), they have a dishwashing stations and two bathhouses. The lady at the front desk was helpful and extremely nice. There is a store really close by also! They have charcoal grills at the tent sites and one communal fire pit. We paid about $20. Would absolutely go back again! The sad part is the museum is closed due to lack of funding 😭

Not too far off the highway and only about a mile and a half to a decent grocery store. Location is secluded and quiet. Staff was friendly and got us to our site quickly. We have a small RV which fit nicely into our spot but larger RVs were stacked close together as the space between sites was small. Looked like lots of sites had multiple vehicles so seamed crowded. RV sites are gravel with a little grass between. Not much shade and it was very hot in July. Could use some updates and additional spacing.
Tent sites were not being used but liked a little shadier and had trees between. Some small cabins available. Showers and bathroom was basic but clean.

Pretty typical Journey KOA. The camp has a pool, showers,play ground, flush toilets, showers and various camping sites to fit your needs. They seem to have 2 types of cabins here. Trees are pretty sparse, so shade is limited. It's also pretty clear that they are using quite a few sites for storing RVs / Trailers on site. Can't say that I've ever seen that at a KOA site before. It's right next to the interstate so there is definitely road noise. Plenty of semi trucks and pretend race cars zipping by. We are in an overlanding vehicle with a tent on the back but we're able to sleep. Granted we were pretty tired. All in all this is a pretty nice place and a good jumping off point for all things ABQ.

Campsites are level full hook ups. Nice people they have Wi-Fi nice bathrooms there’s a really great grocery store downtown called the B St., Café. It was $36 if I paid cash and that was with a 10% discount

On our full hook up site the dump sight was in a bad place. We would of had to un hook from our truck to fully hook up. We only stayed one night and didn’t use any of the facilities.

Ok KOA conveniently located. Bathtub is good. Wifi was not working. Comfortable option but overall pricey for what you get.

The surrounding area wasn’t very nice and it was a bit loud. Decent pace for a one night stay though. Clean RV park and friendly staff.

Petroglyph National Monument, on the outskirts of Albuquerque, was a big hit with our kids (ages 3 and 5).

Paved parking spots with gravel around. Transit sites are very convenient, restrooms dated but clean. Whole site was well kept. Very convenient on and off route 40 and convenient to downtown Albuquerque. Good WiFi

Great and friendly staff. Very clean campground, bathrooms and showers. Next to I-40 so easy access in and out. Road noise wasn’t bad but we have thermal covers on windows and our rig is well insulated.

The water connection for the fresh water is about an inch away from the sewer dump and is at the same level. Sewer contamination is probably very high. Would not hook my water to this no matter what.

Clean campground. Pull through sites. Very few with Fure rings. Lots of campers coming and going. Clean showers and toilets. Nice pool

Grounds have no grass all rocks next to slab pull in site. Can hear all the cars on the interstate. Not a quiet place but easy in and easy out to the interstate
