Description
Pale chalky hills — their origins the subject of campfire speculation, from volcanic ash to ancient mine tailings — rise out of the Mojave desert floor just east of US 95, between Beatty and Amargosa Valley. A gated gravel road leads in from the highway; close the gate behind you and continue toward the white rock plateau for the most rewarding sites. The road is manageable in 2WD, though larger rigs may find the approach limiting, and wind off the open desert does much to soften whatever highway noise carries from the road.
