Soldier Meadows

Early April we were the only people there. Fantastic hot springs and stars.

Perfect winter camp spot

Went here the first weekend of December. I say perfect winter camp spot because I am going to assume a place like this gets crazy packed in the summer. It was a little cold at night, however, the hot springs are right next to the campsites. The campsites are nice and spread out. There’s also a pit toilet. No running water so make sure you pack enough. There is a little cabin to check out or even stay in, but I recommend a campsite because then you’re closer to the hot springs. 40 miles on a dirt road so just be ready for that with a proper vehicle. Overall super cool spot and will be returning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the hot springs like at Soldier Meadows?

The hot springs at Soldier Meadows are a standout feature, located conveniently close to the campsites. These natural thermal pools provide a perfect soaking experience, especially appreciated during colder months. The springs offer a wonderful contrast to the cool desert nights, creating an ideal relaxation spot after a day of exploring. Visitors in early spring or winter may find themselves enjoying these hot springs under magnificent star-filled skies with few if any other people around.

Where is Soldier Meadows Campground located and how do I get there?

Soldier Meadows Dispersed Camping is located in a remote area of northwestern Nevada, accessible via unpaved roads. The campground sits in the Black Rock Desert region, not far from Gerlach. To get there, you'll need to take dirt roads that may require a vehicle with decent clearance. The remote location offers a secluded camping experience, but visitors should come prepared with adequate supplies, navigation tools, and a vehicle suitable for rough terrain. Winter access may be more challenging, so planning accordingly is essential.

What camping options are available near Gerlach and Soldier Meadows?

In the Gerlach and Soldier Meadows area, dispersed camping options provide a true wilderness experience. Soldier Meadows offers nicely spaced-out campsites that provide privacy and room to spread out. The area features pit toilets for basic amenities. Camping here is particularly enjoyable in the off-season when crowds are minimal or nonexistent. The Black Rock Desert region surrounding Gerlach offers additional dispersed camping possibilities on public lands. These sites typically don't require reservations but come prepared for self-sufficient camping with all necessary supplies including plenty of water.
