Description
The rocky spur off Old Mount Rose Highway opens into a small forest pull-off near the base of Slide Mountain at roughly 4,500 feet within Toiyabe National Forest, just below the Mount Rose corridor — close enough to Lake Tahoe to make it a genuinely rare free option in that orbit. A small flat clearing with fire rings and access to hiking trails threads deeper into the forest; the approach demands patience over large embedded rocks, and the limited space means only one or two small vehicles fit comfortably before a mud hole blocks the track. Road noise fades after dark, cell service is solid, and snow typically closes access from late November through March.
