Great place for accessing either side of Glacier

Stayed here one night and wished we’d known of this campground before making other reservations. Quiet, great hosts (Randy and Karen), bear boxes, great level site…and we drove in without a reservation. Lovely Devils Creek to walk along and a local hike to a mountain summit from just outside the campground. Easy access, though a drive needed to either side of Glacier NP. Definitely would stay again if in that area!

Great campground, Awful access

Spent 4 nights here. Riverfront site - a little tight for camper and truck but worked. Hand pump well water, bear proof dumpster. BUT a trek up a horrible washboard road from Columbia Falls and 2 miles (just as bad or worse, but shorter) from Camas Road going into Glacier. We talked w multiple campers who had things broken in their rigs coming up the road. We won’t return due to the access, but loved the campground.

Great for fishing

Great for Madison River fishing access. Not a whole lot of conveniences, but nice.

Very Rudimentary

First off I'm an avid fisherman so camping on the Madison is something special for me so location will beat out just about anything however since I started brining my family I've had a new perspective. There are only 5 campsites and the first 3 sites are nearly right on a dirt road which is only feet away from where you can pitch a tent. This is a highly desired river for fly fishermen and boaters will buzz through that dirt road ALL day long starting at about 6:30am. So if you like to be woken up by the sounds of a banging trailer a few feet away from your head, this is the place for you. My biggest beef is how fast some of these fisherman go by. They have no regard for children running around and just want to get into the water. I'm constantly worried about my 2 year old getting nailed by one of these idiots.

That said you're right on the river looking out on Varney bridge on a river loaded with massive browns and bows.

Varney Bridge Fishing Access

We stayed here for 2 nights, and it has become our traditional early summer spot. There are a few smaller sites right next to the river, which are close to the road. Further down, there are a few more spots with more space, but from those spots it's a short walk to the river. It's a quiet spot, close to Ennis and Virginia City, so there are different options if you want to explore during the day. There are usually quite a few fishermen loading and unloading their boats throughout the day, which can be fun for the younger kids to watch. Each site has a picnic table, fire pit, and there is one outhouse across from the boat dock. The views are stunning, and the fishing is superb!
