Rocky Gorge Campground

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Kootenai National Forest's Rocky Gorge Campground, managed by the US Forest Service, functions more as a large paved staging area than a traditional campground. The 18 sites are spread across an open lot with picnic tables and pit toilets, but no physical barriers separate them. Drinking water is available on-site. Access runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, and the layout accommodates big rigs and boat trailers with room to spare, making it a practical base for anglers using the boat launch. Pets are not permitted. Campers who want shade, privacy, or a wooded setting may want to consider Peck Gulch Campground up the road instead. Rocky Gorge makes the most sense for those prioritizing water access over campsite character, with campgrounds around Kootenai National Forest offering more varied options for other trip styles.

Nothing I have ever seen at a NFS CG

Well, this was a first. A NFS "campground" that is just a huge parking lot. There are 18 "sites", picnic tables, pit toilets and a boat launch. That's it. If you want to be on the water all day and only need a place to hang your hat (like some of the river access points we saw in SE Mt) this would be perfect. Plenty of room for boat trailers and even busses. Other than that, there isn't much to offer . EUREKA isn't that far if you need supplies. The place was deserted when we were there. NfS website said its open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Good for long rigs

We were planning on staying here, but ended up at Peck Gulch up the road instead. This campground is really a big parking lot with “sites” designated throughout. If you’re in an big vehicle or towing this would be a good spot, but there isn’t really any privacy between the different sites (they’re spaced out, but there’s nothing visibly separating them). There is good water access.
