Free dispersed camping on Lake Koocanusa, Barron Creek Boating Site sits within Kootenai National Forest and is accessible by both boat and vehicle. The interior road is rough, so low-clearance vehicles should proceed carefully. Around 15 sites are tucked into the treeline along the open flat, with toilet facilities on-site. Note that pets are not permitted. The site is maintained only from Memorial Day through Labor Day, though it stays open year-round. McGillivray lies about 1.8 miles south if you need a maintained alternative nearby.
Description
The Barron Creek Boating Site is approximately 25 miles northeast of Libby on FDR road 228. This camping area has seven sites. The 3 sites in the open area have fire rings and vault toilet nearby and are able to accomodate up to a 40' rv. The 4 sites in the boat dock parking area have a vault toilet nearby. Campground road and boat ramp are paved, parking spurs and loops are of native material. Amenities include vault toilets, and a fully developed boat ramp with dock.
